Er, if you want to decide on the better party member through fighting, give both the equipment that you'd give them if you had access to every item in the game (Keldorn with Carsy, for example). Full equipment. Then let them buff themselves with whatever Priest spells they have available. Fight when that's done, and see who wins.

That's a better idea because in the actual game, it's not like you go around fighting guys with your fists (excluding monks) and with out armor on. You should have them using the equipment they would normally use, although they should still have an equal amount of XP.

AKA...max level, all HLA's available active. How fun.

Hold tournaments and such. Too bad you can't joust in BG, though...

Also, make both of them have 18/00 in each stat, an equal amount of HP (200 seems nice), that sort of thing. The only thing seperating them should be the equipment and skills reserved to their respective classes.

The amount of HP they have is directly related to their class or stats, and shouldn't be changed. Neither should they have 18s in every stat (you can't have 18/00 in any other ability score than Strength). Their stats define who and what they are, and reflect their upbringing and personality.
