Lol Cerek the Barbaric. That is why P&P roleplay will always be better than pcRPG. no pcRPG will allow you to improvise like that, you have to deal with whatever rules have been coded into the game. But that's another topic and I'm inspired to create a thread....
Onto the topic at hand. While I've really enjoyed playing lots of classes and characters in BG/BG2, the one that I have never been interested in, and never allowed as a NPC is Druid. stupid hippies. Druids annoy the carp out of me. Even Jaheira, fighter/druid so she can actually do something besides heal, annoys me. Just her whole elitist attitude narks me. Not to mention that druids don't have any of the good priest spells other than healing (eg anti-undead ones). I much prefer Aerie once she gets a few levels, and her priest/mage spell combo makes her very versatile, and with a lovely "damsel-in-distress" thing happening that makes all males love her . Anomen would find himself a permanent member of my party if he wasn't such a ponce, cause equipped properly he's a well-decent tank with great spells and the always handy Turn-Undead (great for those times you stuble into a zombie pit and 15 greater mummies rush you... and shadows !!! what is with shadow rushes ?) Anyway... I've never really used bards, but I have just decided this time round to give Haer'Dalis a go... just finished the quests involving him and ready to start using him. I'm also thinking I might be a bard next game and try out the bard stronghold.

PnP or P&P = Pen and Paper
This is where roleplaying started, with games like Dungeons and Dragons, and incidently, is where the rules for Balders Gate come from. BG actually uses the 2nd edition rules of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, adapted to PC. When you see an item description that says, eg for damage 2D6... this is actually the result of rolling 2 standard 6-sided dice and adding the scores. AD&D is pretty much based on rolling all different kinds of dice (the computer simulates these of course) to determine the odds of something working. If you look at Heartless Butterscotch's picture under his(her ?) name, you will see 6 dice. these are the most commonly used ones and are (left to right): D20, D12, D10, D8, D6, D4

i believe Cerek, that you might have forgotten about spell sequencers and contiegencies. a nice spell sequencer loaded with 2 lower resistances and a nice otilukes resilent sphere will take out the wizard slayer out while the high leveled mage can take out the other party members. a chaincontiegency loaded with stoneskin, protection form magical weapons(no arrows of dispelling, i would think)and something like mislead will help if your wizard slayer gets in to melee for some reason. after the others are dead, a remove magic on the wizard slayer to take the sphere off, followed by power word stun. while stunned a nice spell like imprisonment will do nicely. bye bye wizard slayer.

That would definitely be a good tactic to use, Raistlin. However, my Wizard Slayer is 24th level and has a couple of items to "boost" his Magical Resistance. Not sure exactly what it is (I'll check later), but I believe it's up around 75-80%.
I'm not positive, but I don't think even two Lower Resistences will completely negate it, so I'll still have a chance to Resist the Sphere. Plus.....I have a littl "ace in the hole" that I haven't mentioned - an item I downloaded from Arundor's Abode called Charon's Claw. It's a sword and gauntlet combo. The sword causes disease with each hit (but is only +2, so I never actually use it). The gauntlets, however, give me 50% Magic Resistance AND automatically "Spell Turn" any spell below 6th level. So you would end up trapped in you own sphere. I loved watching the clerics in the Underdark fry themselves with Flame Strikes. Even if the sequencer works, there is a chance the duration will run out on the Lower Resistance spells before you kill the rest of the party. Your best bet would be to load 3 Lower Resistance spells in the sequencer and then hit me with Imprisonment or Maze immediately. That would be one of the tactics that would most likely succeed. OR....Cast Time Stop and then use Imprisonment, Maze, Maze (or some such combination if you have it). That way, I'm having to make several Resistance checks and Saves vs spell. My character (who is also named Cerek) isn't unbeatable, but he is very tough. And I've honostly not run into a mage in the game yet that can stand up to him. I've had a LOT more trouble from the monsters and fighter types.

seems kinda like an endless debate, your wizard slayer could whup most level 24 wizards but that's what he's designed to do. Throw him against a level 24 fighter and he might have more trouble. A level 24 assainin(god is that misspelled) sneaks up behind him and hits him w/ a good backstab and he's in trouble.

In a battle between a well prepared high level mage/sorcerer and any other character, the high level mage will win. It would come down to an initiative roll if 2 mages were going at it.

Angelouss - You're right..it is an endless debate. But it's also a lot of fun. And you're right - a Backstab attack is a "killer". The Guarded Compound was absolutely one of the toughest fights I had through the whole game. Mainly because of that darn, backstabbing thief.
![]() Bill26 - I have to disagree with the "absoluteness" of your statement. I would say that ANY "well prepared high level character" could beat any class under the right circumstances. I'm just finishing Suldenesselar for the first time. After killing the dragon, I went into the temple. I'll grant that I focused 4 out of 6 attacks on the mage, but the spellcasters was still dead in two rounds...and he IS supposed to be "well prepared". To make it fair, though, I'll go back and try it again with just my Wizard Slayer attacking him. I'll let you know what happens.
