What I was saying is that, if we, the industrialized nations of the world go in, clean out the Taliban and Al Queda, and etc then the next thing we should do is give the whole region massive infrastructure improvements. That way, the next time some adult extremist tries to exhort his kid to strap a bomb to his chest and blow himself up in the name of Allah the kid will be too busy playing video games and enjoying 'decadent' Western culture to be bothered. After all...it worked in Japan and Germany.

Nachtrafe, I think you are being unfair. Diogenes does sometimes go a bit over the top - but it always seems to me as though he does it for the purpose of stopping people in their tracks and making them THINK about what they posted. Sometimes it works, sometimes it goes pear-shaped and people lose their cool.
And I have seen posts from Liliara to Diogenes that are almost word for word what he said. He was doing her no injustice, as even Liliara will concede, I think, though I believe he would have been wiser not to have said it!

I know him a little bit now - enough I think, to say that he does not consider himself to be mentally or morally superior to anyone. He IS intelligent. I do NOT think he is always right. He is sometimes very hasty, imo.
He DOESN'T want people to 'bow down' before him, he wants people to THINK, rather being driven by the emotion of the moment.

And yes - he DOES say things that make me cringe sometimes - but don't we all?
He's a nice guy.
And I like you, too!

No problems, the comment wasn't directed just at you. Your exuberance is part of what makes you you, just as Fljotsdale's righteousness is what makes her her! Argue the point, not the person, is my philosophy.
