The closest I've been to Canada is Seattle, and it wasn't that bad. Short of the 'Polar Bears'( aka wind) gnawing on your ears. I could actually walk around without a jacket.

The temperature shouldn't be that hard to get used to, but watch out for the winds.

Yeah, it's not like -22 fahrenheit is really all that cold, right? Sure your fingers start burning in the time it take you remove your gloves and unlock the door, but I haven't lost any yet!

I heard that BC isn't as cold as all that: no snow, just a lot of rain. Sounds rather like England

I've got a buddy in Seattle who's lived in the northern parts of the midwest.... I'll get his opinion on winter there. The winter may be tempered by proximity to the ocean currents...

Of course they do! It is not winter if there is no sauna

Just heard back from my buddy in Seattle... per him...

Quote:

Seattle normally has a couple of days during the summer that pop up to the 90's, otherwise the summer are fairly mild (highs anywhere from the 70's to 80's with the lows dropping into the 60's [sometimes 50's]).

July-September are gorgeous months that generally have little to no precipitation (doesn't make the grass look too good, but otherwise awesome) and the "winters" are generally overcast (and I do mean overcast, come January, we will actually stop and appreciate the sun shining through) with high temps in the 30's-40's and lows in the 30's (with a couple of days that have overnight lows in the high 20's). It has snowed 3 times since I moved here in 1999 and the snow was gone within 24 hours.

When it rains it is generally a soft precipitation (I refer to it more of like dew forming on you than rain like the Midwest gets [stepping outside without an umbrella will cause your clothes to stick to you within seconds])

Vancouver BC is very similar to Seattle... so measure from there

Good luck!
