I've never been taught the analytical version but it works. I don't think we were taught it because it was an engineering maths course as opposed to a pure maths course. As far as I know there are 3 versions of the Heaviside function:
1: H[x]=1 for x>=0
2: H[x]=0 for x<=0
3: H[x] undefined at x=0

Anyway, I'd better stop before I start boring people to tears.

man I remember that Heaviside crap, second year engineering maths. Don't actually remember how to do any of it though

Always a good method for representing piecewise functions in a more closed form without having to resort to other analytical forms.

With this particular function, of course, eventually each 6-hour period will become a copy of the previous 6-hour period. That is to say, the function approaches a stable value represented as the desired level of medication in the blood (5.41539951, for those who might be interested).
