So now? This has been going on for quite awhile, people always doing the finger pointing towards everything else but the person that did it. Seriously, people can't figure out that others have some screws loose (regardless of age) when they say, "Well, gee! Let's go kill a buddy of ours using Mortal Kombat moves!" The Gauja River, I don't know why, but when I read that, it brought to mind that pool fatality that most of the characters use.

Hmm, disturbing.

This problem will always crop now and again but the fact that a video game can cause someone to kill is ridiculous. What'll be next love songs being blamed for teenage pregnancy. The problem simply is a lot of fat assed lawyers who see video games as an easy way of making money.

It's the same thing that was happening years ago with the DnD being a devil worshipping tool. Look out, MK players are gonna wipe out the known world...It's funny, I've played MK all the way to Trilogy, and I've never had the inclination to throw any of my friends into a frozen river, after trying to break their neck. Something that seems to have been overlooked in all the excitement about the video game is *what are a bunch of minors doing with booze?????* I don't suppose there is any way that being drunk would have had anything to do with what happened?

I can understand the play fighting, I mean, me and my friends used to play out stuff like that, but we would never hurt each other, especially kill each other

One bad punch can turn a playfight into a real fight, esp if the participants are steamin'.

Gun crimes are getting more common, but you don't hear "guns are evil" as often as you hear Tv/Movies/D&D/Computer Games/Ect. are evil..

Take for example the teenager who took a gun to school and started shooting his classmates.

First thing extreamists blamed was FPS computer games.. It's like excuse me, where did he get the gun and so on..

It also brings me to the question of the evils of fashion and such, people laugh because somones got braces or their teeth are funny, or they look diffrent in some other way. You don't hear how evil these Commercails for cosmetic surgery are, you don't see the complaints about the evils of the media forcing the immage of the perfect body into childrens brains.

When somthing goes wrong people want somthing to blame, somthing that is diffrent from what they gew up with.

And these days, video games seem to be the easiest answer.
Sure they can be blammed for some kids not doing chores, homeworks, assignments and so on, and maybe in some cases, a cause for some bad behaviour, but I dont believe that the game is the cause for this kids death, just because they tried moves from a video games doesnt mean they were intentionally trying to kill hime based on Mortal Kombat.
Killing in a game and Killing in real life are two completely different things, and I dont believe anyone could confude the two, no matter how screwed up you are.

I see the same arguments whenever a case like this comes up.

The game is innocent.
The kids were messed up already.
The PARENTS are to blame.

Ask yourself this, if there is nothing wrong with the game, then why does the argument always come that "The parents should be aware of - and control - the influences the kids are exposed to."?

That would include preventing them from playing violent video games at too young an age. But if there is nothing wrong with playing violent video games, then why do the parents get blamed for letting the kids play the game in the first place?

The bottom line is that young minds ARE impressionable - and whether you want to admit it or not - video games, movies, TV shows and other common media DO have an influence on those impressionable minds. I'm not saying these things are completely to blame, but it can NOT be denied that they are a contributing factor. Even the psychologist agreed that the game could be considered a "catalyst" for their behavior - but he also said the game itself didn't bear sole responsibility for their actions.

I'm not going to say that video games are evil, or anything like that, but on the flip side, do they really need to be as violent as they are? I mean, MK is a nasty looking game (that's the one with the 'finishing moves' or something like that, right?).
