Deregulation Timeline edit: One of the biggest contributions to the 'energy crisis' was the fact that the CPUC forbid the utility companies to enter into longterm contracts. This lead to an over-reliance on the spot market. [ 05-27-2003, 12:04 PM: Message edited by: Rokenn ]

He won't take it. If he cares anything for his wife, that is. She left Washington to get away from the hype of political crap, as she is a Kennedy-blood...so what would happen if Arnie took the job? More publicity than anything else going on in the world at that time. There would be entire crews of reporters and cameramen with full-time jobs of following his every move. If he cares for his wife's peace that she has hoped for...then he'll not take it.

![]() Of course, having never had to worry about money much, I can understand our President's ignorance regarding responsible use of credit. I want a tax cut. But I demand that every dollar you give back to the people represent a dollar you cut from spending. Otherwise, you've given me nothing in the end, because that dollar tax cut I hold now will cost more than a dollar to pay back. And, my taxes will do the paying there too. Cut spending. Damnit. Sorry, all of this was Go Arnie!! ![]() Your assumption of the trillions of $$ in debt are all based on a zero sum game and a static model...not real life. If ya want to discuss it open a thread or PM me but this really isn't the place for it. And yeah I did kind of see the bit I snipped as hysterical |

Disclaimer: I guess I should add that I work for a utility company in California. Yes the Utilities did some things they shouldn't (like selling off more generation assests then they should have). But even if they had held on to maximium amount allowed it would not have prevented the manipulation of the Natural Gas market, which is used to generate the bulk of energy in California. Artificial shortages were created by out of state suppliers, mostly Texan companies with heavy ties to the Bush administration. Also California was not the only state hit by this, many western states had similiar issues but just got lost in the larger crisis in California. When the state went to the feds to try and reign this in they were rebuffed. In the last couple of years the truth has been coming out, which if the Dems had not been so spineless would have hung half the Bush administration out to dry. You just know if the roles had been reveresed the Reps would have cruicified a Dem administration. hehe my disclaimer turned into a mini-rant

Wilson signed it? hmmm I left SD in 94....moved to AK... I don't recall any big issues on deregualtion...but perhaps I was preoccupied with moving. If he did sign it into law then yes he is partly to blame, and it still falls onto Davis' head because he was in charge while it was leading up to and during the disaster. I am still agog over California's debt...when I lived there it was 10 billion...now it is 20-30 billion...when are they gonna start addressing that? |
