Once upon a time there was only one Carolina. It had smart people and stupid people. The smart people didn't like the stupid people so one summer day they blew up a balloon and let it blow away in the breeze. The baloon began to bounce along its merry way heading North. "Look, a Baloon!" the smart people said. "uh, Pretty!" the stupid people said as they began to chase the balloon. They chased it and chased it till it popped. "What do we do now?" some of the stupid people asked. "I guess we wait for another balloon to come by" another of the stupid people said. So they sat down and waited.
That boys and girls (and Lord of Alcohol) is how North Carolina was started.

PS They are still waiting for another balloon to drift past.
