There are two coins the values of which total 11p. One of the coins is NOT a 10p piece. Find the coins.

Well, if the coins were from the US, I would say that the coins were a penny (1 cent) and a dime (10 cents). Sure enough, one of the coins is not a dime.

*************

The second sentence is false.
The first sentence is true.

Which sentence is true? Which sentence is false?

Riddle number two...

"One day in 1980, Jim said, 'The day before yesterday I was twelve. Next year I will be fifteen.' What was the date when he said this, and what is his date of birth?"

Easy one to start with and number three...

"Marc and John are on the ground floor of a department store and want to go to the computer store on the first floor. As the escalator is quite slow, the start going up the stairs of the escalator. Marc is faster then John and goes up 18 stairs, three times as much as John. It takes John twice as long to reach the top as Marc.

How many stairs of the escalator are visible, when it is not moving?

Jim said this on 1 January 1980 and his birthday is on 31 December; he was born on 31 December 1966.

Were the escalator not moving, one would see 30 steps. I know you didn't ask this, but the escalator speed (based on the unit of time I used) is 12 steps/minute.
