Armorer starts as 30 or 35 as major skill and you can repair easily. When it's misc skill its very hard to sucess in repair.

They are too greedy, 230 gp every time you want to repair a daedric bow half daamged.
Also, there aren't smiths in dungeons and damaged items really work less:just for example, killing a betty netch with my char takes one silver arrow if the bow is brand nev, three if it's half damaged.

So armorer is really a must, all the more so if you use bows, which are easily damaged.

I have armorer (35 or so at level 60) as misc skill but can repair perfectly. It just takes more hammers, but those come cheap (with 100 mercantilism, 100 disp: 8 journeyman hammers for 16gp)

good adventurer will always repair all their items before adventuring. I never had any item break in a middle of adventure before.

I've actually never broken a weapon before, but I always repair when necessary. But a Crusader has Armorer skill, so I use it.
