Which means that without at least 50% magic resistance you can't use them effectively.

But I found a way: Just turn the map window in Always-on-top mode (click the little square in the top left corner) and follow the map instead of looking around. Saves a lot of time for traveling between locations not covered by other transportation means.
Obviously getting a resist magic item will help you a lot
