Yes, there's no need to keep track of ability scores. The smallest units of infantry still consists of 100 men/women, so the impact of a single more powerful individual is very limited. Some will be stronger, some weaker, but it's assumed that averages out.
Differences in power come mostly in the from of the quality and type of weapons, the quality and type of armour and the number of men in the units.

Later on there may be stronger units for hire, like ogres for example, but technically speaking that's just lowering the displayed amount of troops in the unit while using the real amount for calculations.
Different races will have some advantages and disadvantages, which'll result in minor bonusses and penalties whenever I need to roll for something (usually casualties).

There's going to be a minor role for magic too, but again any individual mages will have so little impact on the battle they are ignored. Groups of clerics or wizards (depending on the race) will have a choice of a number of simple spells, most of which have counters. The exact spells are again limited by the race. I'll put those on the site as well, although none of the starting armies have any wizards with them.

About the defecting, you're roleplaying a character. You are not bound to your realm or king by anything but perhaps honour. If you want to leave and offer your services to a different realm you can do so, as long as you can find it, and they'll have you. Running back and forth between kings all the time may not make you well loved though.
Also, depending on how well the troops like you (units that served under you longer will be more loyal unless you use the unit in question as a suicide squad in most battles), they may either follow you or just go home.

Two more things:[*]The site is up, and will be updated as regularly as necessary[*]SM, you have yet to decide upon an army type. Once you've done so, I'll pester CD into picking his, start the game and see if I can convince some other to join as well

The plane of No'ote. A plane filed with countless minute realms, and twice as many rulers and ex-rulers. Despite long periods of trade, peace and prosperity, it is never long between small border wars.
For the neighbouring realms of Waterdale and Uyitha, it has nearly been too long. The noble ruler of Waterdale, Sir Arugund of Meitzer, seeks naught but prosperity, but in the oriental nation of Uyitha, emperor Johnas the Destroyer seeks to live up to his name. But good and evil both depend upon one's perspective, and the armies of Uyitha are fiercely loyal to their king.
The conquest of a small streech of land now used for trading would give Johnas control of all the land north of the mountains seperating the nations. But their militarisation has not gone unnoticed by Waterdales traders and scouts...

Just one question about the map. Is the lands with all the hills and forests to the east no mans land?

Yes it is. And there's more to all sides of the map. The difference is that a trade route goes through this part, and because of that the area has been mapped. You could go out and explore other bits of land if you preferred, and possibly find some NPC nations.

BTW, I don't know if this was mentioned before, but can we purchase additional armies when we get more money. And can we research better armor and weapons and more powerful, upgraded units?

This game is mainly reminding me of Fantasy General.

How are we gonna do alliances with other races, do we control their men, do we make another army but its their race.

Yes, the reason they are called starting armies is that you will be able to add to them later, and that existing units may be lost. Money isn't going to be something you have to worry about, you are not the king's financial advisor, you are his general.
At the moment, existing units won't be able to change the equipment they've been trained with all their lives. But newer, better weapons will probably be developed or imported later on. I'm using three levels of weapon quality, and most of those used are in the 'standard' category and none in the 'exceptional' one. So there is room for improvement.
Most of that will probably come from exotic units your realm can hire, rather than what is trained at home.

For an alliance you'll need to find an NPC realm or another player (and at two realms, at the moment, that's not very likely). The realm will have its own army controlled by the DM (me). Most of the actual benefits are increased trade (and more wealth = greater ability to support troops = more troops) and more troops (usually I'll have you be the ally asking for military support, and the allied nation will let you take command of some of its own troops, which'll become part of your army from then on).

You'll only ever have one army, although you can of course split it up into several platoons, divisions or whatever you'd like to call it. In fact, that's probably the best way to be able to explore areas, launch assaults and still be able to defend your country.

Much to the discomfort of the two kings, their generals have so far proven unable to assemble their forces and march forth. For Sir Arugund this news is most unsettling, for as long as there is no campaign, Emperor Jonas can continue to fortify Uyitha.
But the emperor, expecting fierce loyalty in all of his followers, is none too pleased himself. Until his general can get the army organised, he has decided to cut back on military spendings.
It is rumoured that Waterdale, on the other hand, sees the need to aid its troops whenever it can, and may be hiring mercenaries to strenghten the force.
