Either start as an Alchemist (or a Ninja immediately changed to an Alchemist) to get Heal Wounds early, or learn how to run away well. Never underestimate the power of bashing someone with a Shillelah, KOing them and legging it. It's damn tricky but once you get to Arnika you're fine. Better than fine, actually, since there's loads of XP for a single character and a whole bunch of guys to help you out.

It takes patience and a bit of luck but it's possible and once you've got a pair of Nunchukas (or even two pairs) you're set. I didn't even train my Faerie Ninja since her stats went up really fast on their own. If you do train stealth early it's a breeze since even with Stealth at 25-30 most of the early enemies don't attack you.
