Training a new skill: Another possible aid is intelligence. Specifically, using items such as the Brilliant Helm to boost it. I think this strategy helps the character learn faster. I gave it to my Ninja who had no skill in staff/wand. I had trained her instead with mace/flail which will mostly be wasted when she gets CoC. She went up to 35 or so in skill in two levels (10-12) using a secondary-weapon wand (Wand of Static). Anyone else do this? I also agree the two-swords does not work too well for Sams except for early sword training.

Hmm, INT to improve skill increase ... has anyone else made that experience, too? I never noticed a difference in that field, between my INT 25 fighter and my INT 100 mage.

And what´s better for training purpose (or is there any difference at all?): Seven weak spells or one with maximum strenght?

Three spells at Powerlevel 1 train about as good as one on PL7 (rough number after a couple of tests).

Edit: concerning Learning, I noticed in my last party that my mage learned mythology quicker than my Gadgeteer, even though senses are primary for that skill. I don't understand it, unless learning is indeed first of all checked against int (maybe only academic skills?).

Marmot, I have the converse experience. I have a party with 2 pretty similar faerie bishops, and it's alwazy the one with the brilliant helm (gives INT+20) thats learning faster. The effect shows up only after some time, but its definitely noticable (my party is around level 30, so I need to train really much to get just 1 point of skill through training).

Cheers
Philipp

Pyrates, you made me curious. Who in your party has the second Brilliant helm then? Or what headgear do you use for Bishop 2?

There are some skills with INT as a controlling attribute, which means higher INT learns that skill faster. Skills with other controlling attributes are not learned faster if your INT is higher.

Ferro, there is a second brilliant helm? Set location? Mind to tell me... where?

I'm not so sure about the 2nd bishop, I guess it's the helm of serenity? I'll look it up later and I'll tell you about it

One in lower (editBluff, the other in Ferros private armoury, iirc. At least I always have two

Edit: @Scatter I always thought so too, but i can't explain why a mage with low senses and high int will do better in Myth than a gadg with low int and high senses (senses being primary skill). after all, everyone has the same chance for identifying monsters, or?
