how ANYONE could EVER rate "four weddings and a funeral" over "the seven samurai" is completely beyond me. as a matter of fact, how anyone (british or not) could put "four weddings and a funeral" in any best movie list is uncanny to me.

Vive le difference! Everybody has different tastes. British films rarely do well in the US, they are often gritty and don't always have a 'feelgood ending'. At number 38 is a British film called 'Withnail and I', it's a film with very little storyline in it, about some people who get drunk all the time. I have no idea what people see in this film but it has turned into some kind of cult film in this country. People play a drinking game while they watch it. Every time the characters have a drink in the film the people watching have to have aa drink. Obviously I'm missing something but enough people like it to vote it in. Who am I to disagree?

I'm not much of a movie-freak,but StarWars would be my no1 also.
First of all,it's a great movie, plus it's made the biggest impact ever, bigger than any other movie that's been released, imho. It certainly did to me.

I have seen most of them and I am only 19. You are right Donut - it is a peculiarly British list of films. And I don't agree with it either, but I don't think anyone does really. There is always something that you think is the best film ever made that people don't agree with.
It is all very, very, subjective.

Hmmm, surprised Where Eagles Dare didn't make the list...that one seems to come up quite a bit when we play the "Name your top movies" game.

I see there is quite a bit of dissagreement, and i see why, the brits have no idea what they are talking about....
Starwars at 1 ... NO WAY The matrix should be higher then starwars, its a excellent movie. But i guess 15 not that bad.
