Thanks for putting the SPOILER message in - I apologise, I don't often post items. I will keep an eye on that in future (embarassed).

On thinking more about Crucible, it wasn't the story so much as the end result of the book that really got up my nose! This doesn't mean other people won't like it though.

The story was always going to inflame passions because of the ending. That's what makes the book so great - it was told in the first person, with that person being a supposed "evil" person with all their little prejudices yet it still managed to poke fun at the pantheon and made them all seem all too human. I still think it's one of the most radical departures at fantasy writing at TSR/WOTC.

I liked _Prince of Lies_ better, but they're both very good. _PoL_ has one of the best descriptions of the FR pantheon (via Midnight/Mystra) I've seen.
