i never really got this quest either. when the guard shows up he wants to turn hostile... and I'm not really keen on having hostile flaming fist guards running loose around maps. So i buggered off, but when i went back to the thieves guild... the guy wasnt happy with me. So I killed him, afterall you dont want pissed off thieves running around loose either, but of course everyone turned hostile, so I had to re-load. Now he's just standing there glaring at me.. is anything likely to come of it ?

Slight spoiler:

When you do a quest for Alatos (thieves' leader) to steal some items from Oberon's estate, and you return with the items, the client (mage standing next to Alatos) thinks you were too messy in your operations and attacks you. If you did the quests for Narlen he'll come and kill the mage. Not much of a help anyway.

FFE's spoiler is actually more of a spoiler for another quest than the one you're currently trying to solve (although he's right, there is a connection). But if you want to read it anyway, 'select' the text. (Hold mouse button down as you scroll over where the text should be.)

I just wanted to point out that Narlen's quests should be done before the thieves' leader 'cause you can't possibly kill that mage by yourself.

Well I killed the mage in no time. No match really. Nevermind, I've already done the the quest.

Yes, kudos to you! Oh, btw, that was a joke. He IS very weak as a fighter. I don't understand why does he attack you with his staff. I guess he doesn't have any spells memorized. However, if he would start casting protection spells on himself and teleporting around while casting spells on your party members it would be a bit harder.

A joke!! Hmm I see.

Right. Attacking a party of 6 with a staff isn't a clever move. The battle (if you can call it a battle) is a joke.
