I have come to the conclusion that I am going to write the makers of Baldur's Gate on behalf of Lord Brass...In my correspondence I will regale them with stories of Shady the Thief who wouldn't stay dead and implore upon them to add a new type of skill when they create Baldur's Gate III: The Search for Shady which would be "Bow Firing While Running"

Well Scooby gang, there Shady was, south of Beregost and feeling pretty peachy about this whole adventuring fad, when I run into the biggest load of Hobgolins this side of Christmas! * Que Music *

With a big sigh of relief, Shady searches the bodies, encountering gibberlings, diseased and otherwise, due to the combat having taken place all over the map. The Ogrillions wouldn't take the hint, and Shady's newly acquired short bow +1 (funded by the Raid Thunderhammer's At Night Assoc.) didn't impress them one little bit. Everyone's a critic.

No matter. They were dispatched with no regard to ceremony at all, but again I was left disasterously low on the old HP. To make matters worse, it had started to rain. So imagine the scene, Shady stealthily (for which read: herd of elephants) searches through the undergrowth, trying to get some more arrows which were so generously donated by the Hobgoblins Love a Short Bow Too Foundation. How I managed to dash through all sixty of my own, I'll never know! Anyway, some mendicant kobolds appeared, and due to past experience Shady was a trifle...nervous shall we say. The rain has really kicked in by now, and off our intrepid hero dashes, followed somewhat unkindly by these two rather troublesome rat-tailed stalkers.

Ah ha, arrows! Shady rushes to one of the numerous scenes of carnage dealt so swiftly by his dreaded bow, the forlorn expressions of the deceased Hobs making little impact on the aquilline features of Night's own avenger (that's me). Shady secures the fletched argument of the righteous, and lets fly. One kobold falls under the withering hail. Take that! His companion seems reluctant to take the hint and assaults our hero with great gusto. Grrr, my trusted longsword will dispatch you, have no fear of that. Thwack! Scratch another kobold from the list.

Exhaling a long breath, Shady picks up the spoils of war, and downs his last potion of healing. Better make sure everything has been accounted for, as magical weapons aren't cheap, and Shady has fallen upon lean times. After a generous soaking by the incessant rain, Shady sorts out his inventory, and heads back to Beregost with the lovely Miriane's letter. At least I'm not on 1 HP again he thinks.

ZAP

A damnable lightning bolt from the storm finds our little hero in all of that great big region and shocks the hell out of all concerned. So our hero returns, with loot to sell, tales to tell, and a mass of hair pointing straight up to the sky! It could only happen to a thief.

Lord Brass I have to second the motion by Krep that we continue to be regailed by the storys of Shady. (I wonder if he is slim?)

Another thing that your story brought to mind was the name of my Centaur Ranger. He was also an archer by trade and his name was Twang Thunk after the two distinctive sounds from an arrow fired in anger.

Finally, WHY IS EVERYBODY DOWN ON KOBOLDS??????? Does anyone care what they think or how they feel?

I'd love to keep you informed, but I think I'm boring people. So, what I can do is email you if you like with the 'Adventures of Shady'. In fact, I've already started a contemplative piece with a Fighter/Thief called Fael Shadyson. A half-elf protagonist whose mother is best described as: "I'm a fine looking strumpet, ain't I?". from Beregost.

Will wonders never cease?

Considering I've never really bothered to solo before, I've got plenty of questions regarding the subject. If anyone has any hints or tips I'd be much abliged.

A remix of a song from the '80's. And the chorus goes: "Everybody Twang Thunk tonight. Everbody Twang Thunk tonight."

Mr. Baggins, you have been promoted to Baggins, PhD, in Kobold mental well-being. Please explain to the class the TRUE meaning of Kobold metal health. (That's an invitation to start a discussion on Kobolds. LOL)

And Lord Brass, this thread is NOT boring, and I am enjoying it very much. You must continue it. I could start a poll: "Should Lord Brass continue his tale of Shade the Benny Hill understudy thief in the Baldurs Gate forum? Yes. No."

If only we were allowed polls in this forum still! The results would be interesting at least.

Shady is alive and well. He's also slightly expasperated that IWD2 didn't come out on the 27TH as it was supposed to.

This soloing craze is a bit hard on the old nerves, especially as I didn't intend to solo through the game. I only thought about doing it, 'cause people seemed to think it might be fun. Also, it seems nigh-on impossible to "remove" certain obstacles with a solo character. Magic may not be a balance-of-power tipper, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Unless you're on the receiving end.

As a comparison, I started the Shadyson Campaign, just to see the difference with a fighter/thief, and it really is immense. Having a composite bow alone, and a bit of weapon specialisation, really changes the game's flow. Areas that took a while, such as the opening scenes around the Friendly Arm/Beregost road, were much easier with Shady's little boy.

Anyways, Shady's off to Nashkell now, to see if there's any trouble that needs a-causin'. Ta ta.

To answer a few questions posed at me:

Yes Mr Underhill, I do indeed care what kobolds think and feel: are they scared of me, do they know that I'm a veritable god of war? CHAAARRRGGEE! I'll scare them, and you can fix their tiny, shattered minds! It's sort of a make-work policy that could make us rich. Except kobolds are terrible payers; I know from looting many of their corpses.

No, I'm not a writer Gigaettin, but thanks mate for thinking I might be.

Benny Hill's understudy? My parents will be so proud. Who said I'd never amount to anything!

I have to admit that I play a fighter/thief now and have played a straight thief in the past and I will agree with Lord Brass that the difference is night and day.
