Can't dualclass my fighter - Page 2

I see. Will imoen ever be able to use a small bow+arrows if I dual-class her to a mage? After her mage level has reached the lvl when I dualclassed her? She has so high DEX (18) and if I give her an enchanted bow + bracers of archery...

After her mage level reaches her theif level then yes she will be able to use any weapon a theif can.

Gambler, save yourself a LOT of time on this board by following the link in my sig and reading Chapters 4 and 5--ALL of them. You must have a whole lot more questions buzzing around in your head, so reading my Guide will essentially be a pre-emptive strike against them.

Don't get your hopes up too high. Thief/Mage has a limited choice of weapons, so like as not she'll finish up throwing stone - forever.

No more limited than the Thief's. And she'll be no better with a Sling than she will with a Bow: After the Dual, her THAC0 will improve a the rate of a normal Mage, sure, but that doesn't mean it will improve only while using Mage weapons.

I know I am being a bit anal here, but I BELIEVE when you dual class from a fighter to a mage, your mage lvl has to be one above your fighter lvl in order to use your fighter's abilities. Also, I again only BELIEVE that when you dc Imoen into a mage, you are no longer able to use bows, as mages aren't able to do so. When I dc'ed her, I'm pretty sure I was restricted to the sling as far as missle weapons go.

Smoot, you just answered yourself. Replace all instances of the word "fighter" in your first sentence with the word "thief," and then add the words "and weapons" to the end.

When Imoen's mage level is 1 higher than her thief level and she regains her thieving abilities, she will be able to use the bow, wear up to studded leather armor (can't cast spells while wearing it though), stealth and backstab, and use short swords.

In short, everything that a thief can do plus cast spells when not wearing armor.

Imoen is powerhouse when you dual her to a mage. She stinks as a thief but as a dual thief/mage, she's the best NPC in the game. Want to scout for traps when there are baddies around ? Just cast invisibility and do it. You can even disarm them without breaking the invisibility. I have used her to take out the iron throne leaders and she did it mostly by herself.
