The Improved Abazigal was a real rat-race for me. I had 4 chars (inquisitor, kensai/mage, berserker/cleric and a wizardslayer/thief at almost max levels) with the boots of speed and haste casted before the fight. Upon entering I slayed as many of those little wyrms as I could before Tamah the dragon got near me (Abazigal was like a turtle compared to my high-on-acid power rangers When Tamah got near, I ran too the left of the screen, leaving tama and aba behind me. Then I slaid all the salamanders that were lurking around. Then tamah showed up and I ran to the right, right into aba's huge 2-handed butterknife !! So I ran south, using an inquisitors-dispel on tamah to get rid of his protections. Then I split up my party, each ran into a differernt direction, to let my kensai/mage pull off a time-stop. It finished and I hacked away at Tamah until it simply died.

So now Aba was suddenly the only fiend left. Realise I am playing on insane difficulty here. So whats one dragon after everything I've been through? Notta thing I thought. And then I saw aba's shockwave and what effect it had. It did no less than 170-200 damage to my chars (and I have resistance to lighting 25%). So what happened was that 2 of my chars were utterly destroyed and could not be resurrected anymore!! Dying? Sure! We have priests and wands of resurrections a plenty... But not destroyed!! So my challenge became actually to keep all my 4 chars intact (dead or not AND defeat aba !! After some reloads and A LOT of running around like crazy, I finally got the bastard while retaining all my chars.

Kudos to the makers of the Improved baddies, Ascension...

Oh yeah, finalf, here's my advice: make sure you fight aba alone like I did and make sure you have prot from electricty at 100& or more. Carry around those potions of super healing & Good Strats to you man !!!

From what i know killing him isnt really hard, after experiencing the encounter with the demogorgon and his son draconis. I had all my party member use melee weapon surround and attack him, even when he turn into a dragon i use the same tactic. If one of them is seriously injured drink potion, and if he is hurting faster than he can heal and i hav him leave out of the area of effect while the rest continue the battle. In no time u see he is dead LOL!

He uses a damaging lightning based attack. After many failed attempts killing the beast, I finally decided to cast Protection from Electricity, Protection from Energy, and Protection from Elements in some combination on all my characters. I beat him that time and took very little damage on any character. Korgan, Minsc, and Sarevok tanking, Sir Anomen healing/tanking, and a few summoned Skeletons and Mordekainen's Swords. Imoen and myself, a Wild Mage, in back debuffing and casting.

He was tough.

I'm playing TOB for the first time as a solo Fighter mage. When i fought him i think i just walked up cast time stop then greater wirlwind attack and hacked him to bits with crom faer and FOA +3. This was only on core rules though. I only used stoneskin, mirror image, and mislead as protections.

The tactics mod includes an improved version of all of the Five, abazigal's battle now includes two adult dragons and a brood of drakes. The second dragon is Tamah, a purple IIRC.

1. i thought the five to be immune to timestop as the demogorgon is (?). maybe i am wrong ... it has been some days since i met abazigal the last time but i remember at least him of the five to be immune to.
2. you get 3 timestopscrolls in SoA. one is on the imprisoned mage in the underdark (you have to kill him after freeing and helping him) and one is in suldanesselar. anotherone is in this tiny tethir area with the small grave-hill and a hostile party in the middle.
3. i think the wizardshop-keeper in saradush sells ALL possible magespells.
4. thieves got timestop traps
