Howabout a real roleplaying party?
BGII assumes you had a certain party in BGI, as evidenced by the way the beginning of the game is (MInsc, Dynaheir, Imoen, Jaheira, and Khalid). I'm playing this party, along with my dual classed Ranger -> Cleric in BGI, and plan on taking this party (as much as I can anyway) into BGII through the end of ToB. If I went all the way through BGI with the above party, I'd never kick Minsc or Jaheira out, and I'd go after Imoen ASAP. The other two party members are really up to you, but I know I'm going for Keldorn (he fits the party well, and I love Inquisitors), and I'm really not sure who to take for my 6th NPC. A certain ToB only NPC probably fits the storyline better than any other NPC, but I don't know if I want to have that many fighters (Minsc, Jaheira, Keldorn) in my party, with only one Mage (although Dual Classing [above mentioned ToB - NPC] is a possibility -- there's another thread about all this in the ToB forum). Jan fits well, as does Nalia in this party. Anyway, my point is roleplaying to have the most fun, and I don't think the protagonist (a good aligned one, anyway) would ditch Minsc or Jaheira, and will get Immy back ASAP. Since this is a RolePlaying Game, this seems to be the most fun as well. Edited -- thanks Illumina [ 03-29-2004, 02:46 AM: Message edited by: krunchyfrogg ]

::nods:: From a roleplaying viewpoint, you would have Imoen (ASAP), Jahiera, Minsc, Viconia, and the ToB NPC.
I almost always have Jahiera, Immy, and Viconia, out of simple loyalty. I had the three of them since BG, and I like the way they interact with the other NPCs. Edited for clarity and un-bitchiness. [ 03-29-2004, 02:07 AM: Message edited by: Illumina Drathiran'ar ]

Actually, I've played that party before, and I only took those members + ToB NPC:
BG1-Imoen, Minsc, Jaheira, Dynaheir, and Khalid BG2-Imoen, Minsc, Jaheira and ToB NPC A party of 4 (5 in ToB) is plenty to get through the game, especially if you get Imoen back right away. There are quests that you can do without a mage to get you to the point where you get Imoen back. You also don't have to open the chests right away (just mark them on your map and/or notebook, then open them once you get Imoen back). In fact, if you scalp off most of your stuff after Chapter 1, you should have enough money to go right to Chapter 3. But, if you are insistent on taking a thief, then for plot purposes take Yoshimo. Much like the other NPCs above, he does have plot purposes. I left him out of the party above, but if you anticipate having trouble then add him.

That's right... It's assumed that you saved Viconia in the first BG, and that you traveled with her for at least some time (I believe she makes reference to how she would like to travel with you once again), but she's not in the assumed party, no... but she was in my BG1 party. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.
