The location I mentioned is not random AFAIK. That is always the first location I can guarantee getting a scroll of MSword.

Imnesvale is the village in the Umar Hills. Remember the quest 'Idle Hands in Imnesvale'?

In my past 3 games, I scoured every inch of Spellhold and didn't find a single MSword scroll. Finger of Death, yes, Project Image, yes, Delayed Blast Fireball, yes. Simulacrum, hell yes. But no Mordenkainen's Sword. If you'll tell me the exact location, in my next game I'll post of screenshot of me not finding it.

There are certainly locations in the game where there is a high or possibly certain probability of finding a high-level Mage spell scroll. The specific scroll you find in those locations vary, but at those locations I always see a 6th - 8th level spell scroll. These locations may well be where people commonly report finding Mordenkainen's Sword scrolls. One such location is right in Irenicus's dungeon, in the Mephit portal room. I believe it's the bookcase in the west end of the room. One other such location I know of is in Bodhi's Gauntlet, on the same map where you find the Vampire (Dace?) whose hand is part of the key to proceed to the next part of the Gauntlet. There's a library room on that map with several searchable bookshevles, and I believe there is a desk or dais in that room that actually has the high-level spell scroll.

I managed to find Mordenkainen's Sword, Summon Hakeashar, Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting, and Spell Trigger in Chapter 3, all random drops from skeleton warriors or liches. I wish I knew how drops were configured in BG2 so I'd know why all these high-level undead were dropping these great scrolls...

Also I am sure if you kill enough Coweld Fools aka Coweld Wizards you will get one or two.

Also pickpocket the city guards. There's a random chance of getting a high level scroll from them (I've gotten Mordy's, Spell triggers, ADHW, etc. that way before).

The only difference being that I have always found the MSword there without fail in all my games. :-?

Nah, just get your Pick Pockets to around 100%. I do that with potions of master thievery and have never been caught yet. Also, pickpocket the Town Criers at every opportunity. They never turn hostile (and thus no one else turns hostile) when you fail a pickpocket, and they also have a chance for decent treasure (including higher level scrolls).
