Yeah, it works. I think a potion of mind focusing will have the same effect, although it only adds a few points of intelligence.

Potions of Mind Focusing increases your INT and DEX by 3. Potions of Genius increases your INT by 4. Not much of a difference in INT bonuses.

Potions of Mind Focusing also put the little "Mind Shield" icon into your portrait, which is almost enough incentive for me to examine them in IEEP and see if they confer any undocumented immunities.
