Familiar boosts your hp a little, and its sometimes fun to chat with it

The hp boost is relevant for low-level fighter or mage of any level. 200+ hp barb would not notice the +10 hp anyway

True, true...
But when he is reduced to 7HP, he is happy to have it (he is happy to have cheated ).

And truly, why wouldn't other classes be able to have familiars? Or an animal companion? Or a baby dragon that hatched from the silver dragon's egg?

Having been reduced to 7 hp, barb would be dead the next second - a thing that can reduce the barb to 7 hp from 200 would almost surely be able to finish him.

And if you want to play without failure at every battle, get q2, open the console and type 'god' Roleplay from now on

Let me rephrase it:
If, after a long battle, our barbarian wins, but with only seven hit points left, he would be glad he had that boost of ten hit points. Okay?

Though I don't quite understand the Quake2 part...

Yuo claim that those 7hp may save a barb's life (although very unlikely). I say that if his tactic is so poor that he managed to win the battle with only 7 hp left => 'Jennifer Lost The War' Do not hope that you will have enough hp for every single fight Just learn to play better. Such a victory is a defeat IMHO.

If you want to win everytime - why cheat on such a minor scale?? Do the q2 thingie You can even roleplay to the full extent of your fantasy Bow before a Gladiator before killing him

And a similar case was described here some months ago:
After a tough fight, Jaheira had her only 1 hp left. The party entered Docks Districs and Habib appeared Scoring a critical, he finally killed poor Jaheira....

**it happens!

To put a dent in your argument, if Jaheira had the ability to cast FF, she would have 13HP instead of 1HP! Habid would have never stood a chance.

The moral is... more HP never hurts, be you be a Mage or a Barbarian. Of course... Barbarians should not use FF as a way to boost HP, as it is an illegitimate method.

Saying that it is poor tactics to have little HP after a battle is ludicrous. A battle won, is a battle won. It is unreasonable to expect that a person can be fully-buffed all the time, and unexpected twists can happen in a fight.

I would only say a person's tactics is poor if it is obvious that he/she did not put any thought into his/her battle.

The Jaheira/Habib thing was all about showing that **it happens, and the game is a question of luck most of the time (what if Habib didn't score a critical?)

And what if Jaheira had 1hp and was still killed already having cast Find Familiar?

And count the number of times you, Dundee, are left with 3.5% of your hp after a fight? Lotsa? I don't think so. Here comes my improved saying:

GENERALLY 10 hp boost is irrelevant for fighters, and mages are already dead (most of the time... providing you have semi-smart enemies) if they start loosing hps Since all the game is run by numerous dies, you have a chance (a small one) that the Familiar boost hps are useful. You even have a chance of not recieving a single point of damage in the final battle

And you have a chance of seeing a dinosaur the next time you go outdoors or look out of the window. A small one tho...

One use familiars have - they can boost your mage's hp to more than 60. And there is a PWK trap...

Maybe not in BG2 where the battles are rather lop-sided, but in similar games like IWD, which is more combat-oriented, rest assured that about 90% or more of my battles results in a loss of more than 75% of HP.

In BG2... I have "suffered" similar cases with a solo Kensai( 2HP left, woot), a solo Paladin( 1HP left, hahahaha, *whew*), even with a solo Sorcerer( 10HP left). So you are wrong if you think I have not experienced such situations. Ideally in a perfect world, it will not happen, but we do not live in a perfect world. More HP is always welcome, so long as the source is legitimate.

Maybe for those who play on Core Difficulty and on a Default Installation find no need for a "mere" +12HP, but for nuts who play on HoF Mode, Insane Difficulty or with Mods, +12HP is a valuable asset. It can literally mean the difference between life or death.

If you have 60HP left( reasonable), and the enemy deals 60 damage( usually more ), you die. With a HP boost, you live. It is that simple.
