Chaotic commands works but I dunno if you would be able to use it as a Blade: Maybe a scroll or something if you're bright enough. There's a sword that mind-shields you too (?does Lilarcor), making you immune to charm and confusion.

you people are great

DUNDEE - that's swell, I didn't know of the ToB load-delay patch, thank you, I might just try ToB again now. [Would love to hook up again with a certain cocky corsair who abandoned me in Chapter 4 more than once ] I'm just real scared of Demogorgons though - but I'm sure I'll find good strategies here

GROJLACH, BUSTER_WIZ, JATELKA - thanx for heads-up re confusion; you're right, for a soloer Confusion is as good as failing a save vs. FingerOfDeath... I will keep my eyes out for items. (I'll also look into possible defensive spells for that, but unfortunately Confusion seems to be an area spell...) [RE THE SEWER GANG - yeah, that's the trouble - since I attacked them, they shifted position - now they block my path to the mage's lair. *bother*] And I think Chaotic Commands is a cleric-only spell... if I was a Druid I'd be OK, but... Thought there was a helmet or two to block confusion? I don't remember if bards can wear helmets though, but I'll find out...

Potion of Mind Focusing. Dex boost, Int boost, and, a very nice mind shield for quite a while. Always carry these around as a Bard.

A must for any non-Warrior Solo game: Potions of Invulnerability. Who cares about the "AC set to 0," give me that -5 bonus to all Saving Throws! (And hey, the Potions might even stack.)

To get past Draug Fea and the gang, just use 2 Potions of Invisibilty. No big whoop.

In all of my games, I always have hundreds of unneeded Potions sitting around--but for a Solo game, I'll bet I'd be suckin' 'em down constantly.

Roger the Fence has a few potions that have you automatically make every save too, great guy that is
You can make yourself completely Immune to all magic and failsafe for every save with just 2 of his potions

Yes, the potion you speak of grants a +20 bonus to all saving throws. However, i find it a bit redundant -- Potions of Invulnerability stack, and getting your saving throws to below -5 or so is useless anyway.

Yeah, yeah, i know, Greater Malison, Doom, some mosters' attacks cause penalties, yada... I'm generalizing here!

Just one more thing I'm surprised no one has mentioned that may make your life easier for a while... slightly cheesy but not intolerably so, and a tactic practically ideal for Bards.

Wands.

I hope you brought some wands (my favorites are the Wand of Monster Summoning and the Wand of Fire) out of Irenicus's dungeon from the wand traps. If not, I'm pretty sure there are other places to get wands of fire, as well as other useful ones... but I think that's the only monster summoning one. Anyway, sell wand to any merchant, and then buy or steal it back. Voila, 50 charges of Monster Summoning, Fireball, etc. Should help greatly. Be sure the merchant is one you can steal from (has the steal icon when trading with that merchant, and preferably is one you've successfully robbed before) before selling the wand if you want to go that route.

Against higher level opponents most wand effects will no longer be powerful enough to make a difference, but the Wand of Monster Summoning is good at almost any level to throw up a few distractions.
