It's not really that bad with mages.
At low level, most mages you encounter won't deal you a lot of damage themselves. Usually they fall to your arrows soon enough.
At mid level, you'll fire arrows of at a fast enough pace to ensure that most of the spells are disrupted.
At high level, spell disruption doesn't work anymore. However, you'll be able to fire many arrows accurately, and have the wizard run out of hitpoints before he does too much damage.

Also, you'll have access not only to arrows of dispelling, but also to acid arrows. These too are quite useful when you need some spells disrupted.
Protection from normal/magical weapons won't work for them either, since you carry regular, unenchanted arrow, as well as magical ones.

The only anti-magic item that's really useful, other than your bow, is a ring of free action. There's a shortsword that gives you free action while equipped as well, dropped by a slaver/thug person during one waylaying encounter.
(Free action works in combination with boots of speed, for some reason. I suppose you can slip on the ring when you see the spell coming, or something...)

Shields and the shortsword aren't as useful as rings and arrows either, since you can't combine them with a bow. You'd have to stop shooting and that usually just gives the spellcaster an added advantage.
Carry some arrows, carry some potions, maybe a statuette or two, and you'll have few problems if you juggle them properly.

Never noticed. five finger discount, dude.

Not for the Archer, though.

I disagree. Aeger's Hide +3 is an excellent armor for Archers.

Well, Aegar's Hide is lovely, but, Shadow Dragon armor is pretty darn nice, plus, your Archer looks down right ninja like in black.

The Armour of Deep Night +4 is actually offers slightly better AC protection over the Aeger's Hide +3 (but it doesn't offer the mind shield/elemental bonuses). This also makes a great stand-in armour until you get your mits on the shadow dragon scale.

Well, for my rangers, like Minsc for example, if I have him set up for range, or, any sort of poor AC character that is not ideally suited for melee, I always make sure to cast Armor of Faith. AC is rather misleading, there are some monsters that are both fast and hit hard enough to make your momma feel it. Better to have some sort of damage reduction then shoot for better AC. Resists are always a good thing as well.

I am one of the minority, but... Aeger's Hide has save more solo Archers' lives than the Shadow Dragon Scale Armour in my opinion. Immunity to Confusion is not to be sniffed at. Besides...AC is mostly irrelevant for an Archer, as he/she strikes from a distance and enemy archers are mostly harmless.

I tend to buy aegers for any class limited to leather/studded as soon as I can. Magic res and confusion protection have saved me numerous times (well, namely confusion, but mr helps)

Although there's also the fact that I tend not to like items that I can simply *buy,* I much prefer to win them. Going the Deep Night route means you can get to Chapter 3 quicker, too. And as for immunity to Confusion? They can't Confuse you if they can't see you.

Alas... the dangers I was thinking of, can either see through Stealth, or smell you and cast an area-of-effect Confusion spell. Most annoying.
