It is very hard - if nay impossible - for the computer to defeat a single character with the Staff, the Robe, the Ring, the Cloak, the Helm, etc... The trick, is, of course, to get these items. ![]() Take Kuriosan for example - even with their superior tactical skills (and the veteran player always has superior tactical skills than the computer, no matter how good the AI is), many players still find him extremely challenging. Why, you ask? Not because he is smarter than the player or higher in level - but because Kuroisan wields Sanchuudoku and DZB, and wears Vecna, Gaxx, RoP+2, Amulet of Power and the Belt of Inertial Barrier. Just imagine how hard it is for the computer to beat such a character. ![]() |

Soloing might actually be easier occasionally if you do it with the right character, but it doesn't compare at all to the potential a six-player party has when fully utilized. With that said, I still enjoy soloing more since I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and it is simply not possible to perfect a large party the way it is possible with a single character. I'm also always curious about the potential power one single character can have.
My only objection is that soloing causes you to max out far too quickly, even with the Extended XP cap mod. Is it possible to change the the amount of XP needed to level? I would be thrilled if I could switch the fighters value from 250 000 XP to 600 000 since it would make it more interesting to solo a fighter.

I'm talking Insane difficlty here, where permanent death is quite common. That gives the edge to soloing - it's much easier to keep one demigod alive rather than 6 "normal" characters. Quote:

Ah yes the permanent death, what's up with that? I was under the impression that it was supposed to only happen if the killing blow hit for more than 200% of the target's remaining life, excepting spells like disintegrate and polymorph. But when I played with a party, characters would more often than not explode in a flurry of flesh when taking hits that only exceeded the total remaining life by a small amount.
Anyway, a party sure is quite hard to play when you're up against a Lich or powerful mage who starts flinging Abi Dalzims and Dragon's Breths around like mad, in short any spell of mass destruction becomes very frustrating obstacles for a party. But most parts of the game I could steamroll through with my party, where my soloists had a pretty rough time progressing.

![]() You assume that a first-timer will know where and when to get these items, but that is not the case. For a first-timer, the game will be all about self-discovery, unless he/she was spoiled to the high Heavens. Ergo, Sir Exxon's statement still stands. Soloing is only advisable to those who have completed the game before and know it quite well. To tell a newbie to solo is suicidal and will ruin that newbie's game experience. Soloing is only easier when one is a veteran. |

You are quite right - I agree that soloing is easier for people who know the game well.
Then again, many newbies know the game quite well, too. ![]() If you'll read Meifumado first post, you'll notice that was lurking in BG2 forums and newsgroups before he posted this - so i'm assuming that he already knows where the Staff, the Ring, the Robe, and all the other godly items are. ![]() That said and done, i stand corrected if i wasn't clear enough - soloing is thougher for people who don't know the game.
