*sigh* I had a nice faerie ninja going, had her around level 18 or 19, and just lost the savegames due to some technical errors with my harddrive. I seriously do not look forward to defending against some crabs again.

Anyone else experienced some sort of annoyance like that?

That really is a bummer. Did you have autosave on? Or did you lose every save you had? That is very odd, I hope your drive isn't failing. If you have any sort of data recovery software, you could try to get back at least one save intact to continue. Good luck.

It was when I tried to install Linux alongside windows XP, something went wrong and I couldn't access the C:\ drive anymore, so I eventually resorted to deleting all partitions and giving up on Linux. So there's no way to get them back now. Still, I still have that desire for a powerful character, I'm sure I'll be able to restart again in a few days.

The most annoying thing was that I couldn't continue the game with the characters I had played with in the demo of the game.

My condolences.

Am I really the only person paranoidic enough to make daily backups of his savegames? I have CD slowly & steadily filling up with Wiz 8 saves. The added bonus is, obviously, that if something goes wrong with my current game, I can easily return to any earlier stage in the game (without cluttering up my HD with save files): the saves are nicely organized into daily folders. Then again, I have been paranoidic enough to make backups of everything even remotely important/unique since 1990...

As for the Linux issue, you could either
1) buy a cheap second-hand computer for Linux (this is what I did); Linux is not quite as hungry for CPU power/memory as Windows tends to be, so slightly older hardware should be ok
or
2) use a removable HD system (i.e. a separate removable hard disc for each operating system); these are not very expensive and tend to cause much less hassle than trying to have both OSses on separate partitions

haha . Well, I might try Linux again but I'll make sure I get help first. I know a few people online who use Linux so I'll get some info from them.

As for restarting, I think I'll try a different party before I start the solo again. I planned on doing them after the solo anyway, I'm going to have a party of four hybrids, so that I have all four magic realms as well as some steel

A friend of mine just decided to stop using Linux altogether, he said it was too much of a hassle. Something about kernel and definitions or something or other.

And that's a great idea! But won't party progression be slow with only hybrids?

I need to try that Right after my other fifty-eleven projects
