My point man is a Dracon fighter, and I think I've used his 'breath acid' ability about twice. Is it any use, i.e. does it ever develop into a damaging attack, or just window dressing?

3-5 points per attack just don't get it when he can berserk for 30-65....

I have used it only a few times since reaching higher levels. I will use it if I'm out of spell points (my Psionic is Dracon) but lately I've been gulping Magic Nectar potions and just hitting more spells.

I did wonder if it gets better or if anyone uses it a lot more.

The highest I've taken a dracon is level 9, a rogue, and I've seen his breath to 10-12 damage to one and may 7-10 on 3 or 4 more enemies.

Thing is, I play ranged/magic parties who stand back and wait for the enemies to come and say hello. In that kind of party a character without a ranged attack of some sort is simply a tourist viewing the scenery. Sure you can give him or her a bow but unless you put points into it it isn't going to be that wonderful most of the time.

So yeah, the breath is somewhat window dressing but it can be useful to wipe off a few HPs until the dracon's in melee range.

I have 2 Dragons in my party. One alcemist and one fighter. Both at level 11. It would seem like the first breath is the most lethal and depending what your breathing on you can get the damage in the high teens! I think I even got a twenty something once. I will keep going with these guys and let you all know how they finish. I have found it to be very good against massed attacking insects. Exhale acid once before you enter a melee then go beserk. Battle on!!!

I used it a lot early on, when I was happy to cause any damage and spell points were often low, but not so much later in the game.

I have seen damage in the twenties too, which isn't bad when you're not in sword range.

I have a Dracon Samurai that I made because I thought it would be cool to have a breath weapon. Unfortunately I never remember to use it. I now am at level 20 or so and my tactics are to run or walk into close combat ASAP so I have no need to use it. I could try it in a battle just to see how much damage it does but since I am fighting creatures with 200+ HP, I really do not think it is going to do as much damage as I can do with my swords.

Dracon Breath is wonderful Eye for an Eye won't counter it.
I have my Valkyrie and Vi use it. The last time my lvl 19 Valk used it on Blistering Scorchers and Rapax with 70% water resistance, she averaged lows 20's in damage. Dracon breath seems to be stamina dependent since it gets weaker with successive breaths. (Well, my Valk's a Rawulf, so I use the spell, maybe it's just the spell weakening, ala Eye for an Eye?). Anyway, if it IS stamina based, then the best spitters should be Dracon Lords or Valks. Strength! Piety! Vitality! (in the tone of Sparkle

Ah, I hadn't realised it was immune to Eye for an Eye (I hate that spell!). I have two dracons in my party (lev13 FIG and SAM) and they both use dracon breath quite a lot when faced with hoards of bats / wasps / frogs etc. Combined with a high level magic missile from my magic user, and piercing pipes from Saxx when he's around, and it softens them up nicely by the time they're close enough to melee. There's a certain art to ensuring the maximum number of enemies are in range when it's time to breathe, though.
