Offer them some nice tea and crackers?

Haven't been to lvl 11 lately so I haven't had the pleasure of their company.

You'e not missing a whole bunch of pleasant chatter, Cloudy. These things are BIG and NASTY and very short-tempered. Unfortunately, they also have very long attention spans and thus adventurers are unable to simply run,er, retreat, and await a calmer time to proceed.

Well, if anyone can come up with a theory that works I'm sure we'll all be interested. I've tried most of the things listed above and they just ignore me. Nice to be a monk sometimes - I can run away faster.

An Amulet of Clearing gives time to pause and think.

Not that it's done me any good so far.

A few days ago I was in a group (with relicfinder?) and we came across a similar tree on level 2 (as well as a HUUUUGE spider on level 5) which may have been put there by Halaster, it was a huge shock I tell you! But when you examined it the usual fire giant description was not shown and instead there was a full on description. The only weakness in its makeup I noticed was a reduced resistance to fire. The tree was taken down after a long fight and even my 12th level monk 'Seth' was able to hit it with a crossbow and some fancy bolts. So I suspect there are two types of tree roaming the caverns of EfU.

It's not that bad Neo, they may be impossible to kill but they're crap at hitting you back as well. Guess trees don't limber up before battle. Can just about ignore them unless you accidentally get stuck behind a couple of them in a very small space with no way out (VofE) lol.
Other than that they don't get in the way of leveling up, they just pester you incessantly. Unless they've changed since my last encounter.
