I'm playing "The Dark Side of the Sword Coast" and have finished Dulag's Tower and "The Beard" and my world map shows in light brown three areas that I have never seen before. I played BG, ToSC and both BG IIs through some time ago and reloaded BG&TotSC to play "DSothSC".
I did a search here and checked the World Map on IW website ... NADA can anyone shed any light? I assume it's part of DSotSC. |

Yes it is. I don't think you will be able to access those areas until you finish the Cloakwood mines, though.

AH.. I have finished all 4 cloakwoods and pulled the plug in the mine, am now sitting in BG itself.
Rats! Did I miss the cue? I exited each area around the unknowns on anyside they would let me (Know that sometimes exit location revels a new area). [ 02-23-2002: Message edited by: Rolper ] |

Go to the Friendly Arm Inn. You'll find someone new is there.

Yeah, I have her in my party and was trying to investigate her claim. Well now they have completed all three areas... found the litlle spot to the NE to exit one of the areas....
Spoiler! / / / / / / / / / / / / / // All three areas were dupes of old ones without any special challanges or much of a boost in experiance points, very disapointing after the time spent getting to 'em. Any comments? |

DS spoilers:
. . . . . . . . . . . . Because Team BG does not have the proprietary source code for the Infinity Engine they were not able to actually create new areas. You will find that all the "new" areas in DS are merely recycled ones. I found that disappointing too, although I do think they are respectable efforts given the limitations Team BG was working within. Personally, I actually don't care that there are any new quests or NPCs in DS, above and beyond the fact that they give you the opportunity to level high enough to gain the new level 6-9 spells that DS adds. I play DS in order to have all of its new spells, which I do think are quite good. That and the fact that DS substantially tweaks up the difficulty of some of the former encounters.

Ah! It becomes clear! And if any of the developers are reading these posts, I think I owe them an apology.. it seems I didn't complete the quest with Jet-Laya and I do like the new spells and items. I don't know why I didn't encounter any new monsters or NPCs the 1st time thru. I got to BG and decided to part ways with her, and she said something to the effect that her sister was still missing and alluded to wyverens (sp.) .. went back though the new areas and encountered some new bad nasties that I didn't b4 but still didn't find sister. The only place I can remember wyverins is in the cloakwood areas... any clue?

So as not to completely spoil it for you right now, I'll just give you a couple of hints. This is from the old 1.01 version so they might a have made it a little easier now. The sister is in about the middle of the third map near the cave. You can only find her at night and Jet-laya can't have Neg.Plane protection on herself. I'm rerunning with version 1.03 right now and am almost done with Dulag's so I'll be able to tell you more in a couple of days.

Only at night? Thanks, there is no way I would have figured that and now that I think of it ... I fairly sure both searchs were in daylight.

Would you like to be spoiled about something else in DS that there is really no way to know beforehand, the effect of which is a major drag? Personally, it almost ruined my experience of DS the first time I played it. It regards a type of new monster and a capability it has.
