Okay, so Open Office 2 is now available in Beta form, so it's not technically "out" yet...but it's available, and that's what counts.

Who all uses OO? Personally I love it...it can do almost everything MS Office can, without the amazing, shaft-o-matic pricing...plus it has gobs upon gobs of compatibility.

I tried to install it but they only distributed it in .rpm for linux I tried to change it to debian packages but I got errors after installing then. So I just wait till it's in the debian packages. Or I try to get it working in slackware but I don't know. It was an error with missing files and that seems to be on OO's side not mine.

I don't know if I'll like it. I hope it has better .doc formatting when I open word docs. I didn't really like the idea that it's going to look exactly like word either. But well, it's the best out there for linux.

Its still not that good

Don't even bother with Powerpoint presentations, and complex Word documents are still rendered absolutely hopelessly.

Was hoping for a bigger jump than this, although it does look much nicer and appears to have a smaller memory footprint.

One of my friends also reports that for some reason it takes down the operating system completely on his Linux box when it freezes on him

I did tell him to, whether he has the time or can be bothered is another matter! He's pretty hacked off with the whole Linux experience at the moment, but I shall pester him
