Make sure you have an audio patch cable from the audio out on your CD to the CD In on your soundcard. It's usually a grey cable with small 4 pin connectors on either side.

Not all CD ROM drives play music... those which don't are pretty useless...

If it hasn't got a volume control on the front then maybe its one which dont play music.. otherwise yes, check the cable...

I have a problem similar to this.

Before I installed my CD burner, my primary drive used to play CD's just fine. When I put the CD in, the player came up and I could play the music. As of late however, when I put a (music) CD in my primary drive the player still comes up but I can't press on any of the buttons to play, go to next/previous track etc.

It's not really a big problem, as I can just put the music CD in my other drive but it's still pretty annoying.

Goku you maight want to check your settings in your CD player. It might have changed the drive from D: (if that was your original setting) to E: the new drive. Since your audio cable isnīt plugget to that CD-R you wonīt hear any music. In w2k (M$ CD player) itīs options-->advanced settings.

Digitaly rip the tracks to HDD and play from there. Saves switching CDs around.

Or, to actualy fix the problem, remember that music plays through the analogue passthrough, not the IDE cable. Most sound cards have a CD-audio in, and an identical plug marked aux-in. My experience is that both ports are equivalent. So plug the second audio passthrough into that, make sure CD-player is set to the correct drive, and it should all work.
