Does anyone remember this old 2D rpg series? Its been awhile since I last played (the demo) but I do recall that it was incredible addictive!
If you are interested, btw, just go to http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/ and download the Demo. Its definatly worth your time

I have the Demo for the first Exile game.

Here is the party I usually play with. It is strong in all areas, with 3 fighters and 3 casters:

Grix - fighter. Starts out with:

Strengh: 7
Dexterity: 6
Intelligence: 1
Slashing: 4
Blunt: 2
Alchemy: 4

This character is a pure fighter with the ability to create potions. She will usually wield a sword, but has a bit of bashing prof if a magic flail should show up before a broadsword.

Mysto - wizard. Starts out with:

Strength: 4
Dexterity: 1
Intelligence: 5
Mage spells: 4
Slashing: 1

This character will be the primary mage. Surely she cant benefit from Mage spells 4 right away, but in the end it means that she will attain Mage spells 7 more quicker (and less costly). She will learn some Cleric spell levels later. At least in order to use harm (level 2).

Trix - fighter. Starts out with:

Strength: 6
Dexterity: 6
Intelligence: 1
Polearms: 5
Remove traps: 4

Trix is the secondary tank. Since there are such wickedly powerful polearms around it is always a good idea to have a fighter with the ability to use them. You NEED a character with good remove traps abilities.

Bliss - cleric. Starts out with:

Strength: 4
Dexterity: 2
Intelligence: 5
Blunt: 2

Bliss will be the primary cleric. As a lingering D&D'ism I will make her specialise in blunt weapons too in order to utilise any magic flails around. She will not be a real tank though. Perhaps I will make her learn some Mage spell levels, but this is sheer extra.

Arcana - Mage/cleric. Starts out with:

Strength: 3
Dexterity: 1
Intelligence: 5
Lock picking: 4

Arcana will be the secondary spellcaster. Able to throw both fireballs and heal spells when needed. While she starts out with Mage spell 3 in the beginning I will rush her cleric spell level to 3 before bothering with the mage spell. Mage spell level 3 is only there for fireballs (early XP). Oh yeah, and she can pick locks.

Sneaky - Archer. Starts out with:

Strength: 5
Dexterity: 6
Intelligence: 1
Archery: 6
Slashing: 3
Poison: 2

I initially meant this to be a thief, but i quickly found out that keeping all the thieving skills on one character is a bad choice in this game. Mow she will only develop the poison skill (useful with bows). Besides shooting arrows she be an auxiliary "rear guard" tank.

This party is extremely flexible and can utilise most of the power there is to be had in this game.
