playing a neutral evil fighter/mage, i summoned up Skrittik, my unruly and petulant dust mephit familiar. too bad they dont list all of the stats of these things but discovering them can be hilarious.

so we're walking into the hall of wands and so far ive kept him out of the way because his AC sucks, but his spells (glitterdust and glass dust) are by far the best spells any familiar has. thankfully the little guy has pretty decent regeneration too and obvious resistance to physical damage.

anyway... apparently i forgot to pick up the fire wand key somewhere along the way...

"Damnit, Skrit. I told you to grab all the keys we found. I've got enough to carry and gave you the +5 Keyring of Holding."

"Sorry, boss. I must have been distracted watching you toss fireballs with your eyes closed."

"Uh, my eyes weren't closed."

"Oh, my mistake. It just looked like you didn't know what the hell you were doing."

"Enough criticism from you, runt. You weren't even singed... hmm."

" More gobbos and rock dorfs ahead."

"Nice. Say, why dont you go say hi to them, and when they chase you to wring, i mean, hug your scrawny little neck, bring them back to where this next pillar's trap should be. By the floor markings it should be a blast!"

"Har har. You better hope your jokes improve before you die and go to hell. Devils have a very refined sense of humor, ya know."

So off he goes, springing joyfully... [start over] So off he goes, skipping/flying along with a fresh Protection from Normal Missiles spell on. He circles the goblins and taunts the duergar until he's got a nice and frustrated pack of bad guys chasing him. Back into the hall he comes with the love train of baddies close behind. As they close to smash his leering visage into mephit mush, he nimbly [edit] he clumsily trips the trap, loosing a fireball than incinerates the mob. In his fervor he runs back and forth across the floor, bringing wave after wave of flame blasts that do absolutely nothing to him as he jumps back and forth like a [anachronistic reference] 5 year old playing in a sprinkler.

and that's how i discovered dust mephits are totally immune to fire.

well, it's time for my medecine and then beddy-bye!

I never bothered with familiars. Are they even worth the trouble?

Get one!!! Even for a 12HP boost, you can stick him in your inventory out of harms way [img]smile.gif[/img] There are not many find familiar scrolls around. I can only think of 2 locations where I found them....

Man, all my Blade got was a Rabbit Familiar, at least he's slightly entertaining...

"(Pet the Familiar)"

"Ahhh! That's good Man-Creature! Now go fetch me some food so that I can satiate myself!"

Some familiars are quite useful, especially if you plan the characters right.....for instance, create a Chaotic Neutral Swashbuckler and put your points into everything except Hide and Move Silently. Then Dual to Mage and get that Cat familiar.....Boo Ya! And since you're past Level 10, you have all your hitpoints, so losing a point of CON doesn't to jack to you.
