Hi. I need help choosing my party. I've decided on a Lord, Ranger, Priest, Rogue, and Mage. I can't decide on my 3rd fighter. I REALLY love dwarves and think there's nothing meaner than a dwarf and his axe. When I played the demo, though, I was impressed with how many attacks the monk had. The monk was doing more damage than the fighter. What should I choose?

Just a quick note on monks: they take longer to develop - meaning you won't see those stunning amount of attacks (and respective damage), or many critical hits until you've leveled up quite a bit, which can make the beginning of the game more difficult, depending on what other classes you have in your party. Your Lord will develop similarly (generally speaking, hybrid classes develop slower).

You might want to opt for the fighter, especially if this is your first time through. If you really want the monk, however, go for it, just keep in mind that it might be more challenging for awhile.

My current party has 2 fighters and a monk (among others). The fighters definitely dish out way more damage with their swords and berserk, but my monk already [generally] gets more attacks and his damage seems to be getting better. Not sure if it raises with martial arts or just strength (though I assume both right now). Plus he crits now and again which should only get better - particularly with the more attacks. So as most people point out, the fighters will surpass most classes in straight out damage across the earlier levels and the other classes come into their own later on. Oh, and my monk seems to land his hits more frequently than my fighters for what it's worth..

Currently I'm kicking an idea around of making a party with like 3 dwarven monks roaming the lands a la 'Kung Fu', maybe with a hobbit bard to keep them company/entertained. But I'm trying real hard not to start a new game - again.

Your party is basically mirroring the one I am just finishing with. I recommend choosing a fighter for the frontlines. You can pick up a really good monk RPC later (but with no magic skills). I found that putting the fighter samurai rogue monk (RPC) and lord in the middle rank (one each side, 3 in the middle) with the ranger mage and valkyrie (RPC) in the middle rear really gave the best hitting power.

I used the lord as a priest until about level 14, now he basically acts a fighter (2 blades). And he's a dwarf to boot.

The front line is now all around level 18 or so and with the advanced weapons you get later they do incredible amounts of melee damage (fighter - 350+, samurai - 250+, etc etc). Melee is the name of the game. If you choose a Mook ranger you can get a sword later that can be used from the rear ranks. Now when I close on enemy groups everyone (even my mage) is in melee mode and kicking the crud out of everything that moves.

That's what's great about this game, you can have a party like this which is basically a bunch of slicers and dicers, or you can have a heavy magic group and still wipe up. Your choice.
