I got a high level party(well around level 20 or so) and I thought that if I used all my protective magics and abilities I was invincible....WRONG...I am on the last level of Watcher's Keep and I tried to beat this unholy gang of 6 badguys, including a beholder and a drow mage, a succubus and some 6 armed thing...and to make a long story short they kicked my a** so seriously...Any good advice on tactics I could use against those people would be most welcome. My party is:
Me-Dwarf beserker Minsc - human ranger Jaheira - Half-elf druid/fighter Jan - Gnome thief/illusionist Aerie - Avariel cleric/mage Imoen - Human thie/mage

This battle is one of the toughest in the game.
I got past it by lame cheesy tactics - running through the portal between kills and resting up. Concentrate on the easy meat first - the humanoids to the right. The marilith (six armed naked lady) requires breaching before it becomes vulnerable - so ignore it till last. The elder orb is a major pain but also rquires breaching. Try and get it to target a character with a shield of balduran or a cloak of mirroring - unfortunatly elder orbs have the unique ability to get rays past these items, so your still not safe. The huntress will hurt you with arrows but the two close combatants do more damage and are easier kills, although one of them requires breaching as well.

Sorry, I misread the post. The fight I had posted here was for the Succybus fight on WK lvl 2 or 3. Appologies!!
As a matter of fact, just last night I got to this fight and twice got the snot beat out of me. Going to take some of the advice given here, thanks! [ 06-20-2002, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: Tanoch Thas'ala ] |

I agree with Andrewas: Attack from the right. Their right flank are all classes that are heavy on the offense, but have weak defense (Kensai, Archer, Druid/Mage?), so if you ignore the damage that the other 3 are giving you, you can remove half their team in just the first few rounds; by which time, the area-of-effect spells you unleashed should have done some good damage to the 3 remaining girls as well.
By the way, that sounds like a very solid party. Everybody except the Tank can cast either Greater Malison or Doom.

NASTY FIGHT...
By far the worst I had in the game. I used every single summons that I could to hold them off (they don't last long against these guys), then fired in rays of reversal and lower resistances on the main baddies, while summoning with the clerics and druids. Once spell protections are lowered, I hit them with Dragon's Breath, Storm of Vengeance, Holy Smite, Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting, etc. Then I fell back, summoned more, and prepared for the fight of my life. I killed the Marilith last, mostly because I kept her distracted with summons the whole time. I rushed the person using the Shield of Balduran right up to the Matron Mother (luckily, the other spells hurt it enough that I killed her before the person got imprisoned). My Archer targeted the huntress with acid arrows, taking her out (she deal a lot of damage, though). The other guys were taken out by summons, magic missiles, etc. Once everyone else was gone, I sent in Minsc and Anomen to take out the Marilith (Minsc using the Ring of Gaxx, Anomen using the Periapt of Proof Against Poison). My guys were all down to at least 60% health, some around 20-30%. We used most of our spells in that encounter. The key is to know it is coming, and rest and memorize the correct spells beforehand. It also helps to get killed off a few times, figuring out which tactics work. ![]()

Those guys don't know how to open doors, if you go into the nearby room with a door you can shut it and be safe. The game will even let you rest. I used traps to take out anyone just outside the door, then took on the rest one at a time.

Blah, your a dwarven berserker, screw tactics rush in there and show the rest of your party how to kick some rear!!!!!! Bottlenecking also works, another great thing is the mantle spell and protection from magical missles and weapons.
