I know there is no best class but there is a worst class. I tell you there is and the worst class is. Drum roll please *Drum Roll* BARD! I mean cmon a bard is useless I'll soon tell reasons why but every other class has its own role to play for example
Fighter-Tanks great big tanks and always changes the tide of battle! Wizards-Are not as tough as tanks but can do a lot of magical damage the weakens the enemy therefore making tanks kill the enemy easier Clerics-Backbone yes everybody needs healing Thief-You need to know whats ahead of you and you are not just crazy enough to walk over a lotta traps without a thief to check em right? Druid- uhh little clericy ![]() Bard-Only thing is helpin out with it's crappy music. Okay I heard that bards are a little bit of everything partyly mage partly fighter and thief (I think cleric or is that in the 3rd Edition) Master of none I mean none at all. Oh no gotta go be back with more reasons in a jiff

The worst class is really a matter of opinion. In my opinion it is fighters. Powerful: I suppose. Interesting: Certainly not!
Mine would be Swashbuckler. They are just the best. Read the class description and find out....... ![]() DJG |

Yeah, it depends on whether the intention is fighting prowess or roleplaying potential. I think any class can be interesting if there's an interesting player behind it. In PnP roleplaying, the bard has his table set to be one of the most interesting characters.
But as far as offensive weapons, the strongest character is always the mage, imo. They start out really slow but that's only to balance their unbelievable power later on. A high level mage can easily take down a high level fighter if there's a real understanding of defensive spells. [ 12-17-2002, 05:28 PM: Message edited by: Heartless Butterscotch ] |

Aw, I loved my bard - it was the first character I played. He definitely was not all that powerful by himself, but he was a great team player, so to speak. Bard song in ToB saved our party's butts many a time. And you never need to carry around those Glasses of ID if you're a bard, apparently he's some kind of trivia genius or something
![]() Kind of fun being able to do support fighting, maging, and thieving for your party, never always doing that same old single skill that you're good at. I'd say a Monk SEEMS like a boring character - no cool armor, you're better off unarmed, no spells... but then again I haven't played one yet. I'm sure I'll like it when I try it |

Monks can be boring at times...but what is more fun that pummeling your enemies to death with your bare hands? The insane magic resistances as well as a ton of other abilities (they get something new just about every level...just look at the kit description) I enjoyed beating irenicus to death while Viconia just stood in the back. She never even had the need to cast heal...

I would have to agree that in compRPGs the bard is the weakest link. PnP games is a whole diffrent ball game. I have an 11th lvl 2nd ed. Blade bard that is just the shizzzznit!!

How about Wizard Slayer? I´m playing one now, and I don´t think magic resistance and some spell casting disruptions are worth not being able to use plenty of magical items.
Or.. Totemic Druid and Beast Master?

Hey, NiceWorg, I LOVE the Wizard Slayer class. When you have good armor, good weapons, and a few healing potions...what more does a fighter need?
Like Heartless Butterscotch said, mages become incredibly powerful at high level. That's why I enjoy nothing more than just walking straight at them as all their spells bounce off of me. A few Arrows of Dispelling as I advance, and those annoying defensive spells are no longer a factor. Then it's just a big, bad fighter and an un-armed mage - up close and personal. The end is swift and brutal. Of course, the reason I love the Wizard Slayer class so much is because it reflects the general attitude of the 1st Edition barbarian in PnP. He was a VERY powerful fighter with lots of endurance and skills with weapons....but he didn't trust magic. They especially did not trust magic-users and weren't even allowed to adventure with them at low levels. I played a barbarian and my college roommate played a mage. We had some great times "antagonizing" one another in our games. When I saw the Wizard Slayer kit, I knew I had found the class for me.
