Thanks for the info, but... What a tease you are! Anyone else want to chime in with a simplified explanation of how many of which types of skills to advance in order to get favorable picks at leveling time?

...There's a easier way to solve this quest; simply walk up to the nearest Dwemer ruin (preferably the one Caius Cosades sends you to) and pick up the Dwemer items there...

I appreciate the advice! I think I am going to do this the hard way, for two reasons: 1.) The game intends for you to retrieve them from Rhizid, and I've already spent something like 200 in bribes trying to figure out how; and 2.) I think the dirty scoundrel should cough them up. Hmm... Looks like easily my toughest fight to date. Should I go on a Seyda Neen --> Pelgiad --> Balmora walkabout first: bone up for two levels worth of longsword, blocking, athletics, light armor, strength, endurance, and agility; or maybe just grab some ready-made sujamma and health- and fatigue-restore. Hmm... This is getting to be an expensive quest.

If you by "bone up" mean paying a trainer, then I wouldn't bother if I were you. Those skills you mentioned above will increase fast enough as it is, with the possible exception of Block at lower skill levels. You're better of spending money on stealth skills and magic skills or other skills you have difficulties increasing.

Endurance is a pain in the ass to increase as only two skills rely on it, Medium Armor and Spear. Of some unknown reason Athletics doesn't.

Also, keep in mind that resting or waiting for 1 hour will replentish your fatigue bar completely. Useful when there's no enemies around.

As for the Dwemer artifacts; I've never managed to get them from Rhizid despite bribing up to 100 in disposition, and the chest have something like a 75 lock.

That quest is pretty ill-placed for being such an early Thieves Guild quest. You can't get the items through bribing, the lock is most likely too difficult for a character at this early stage of the game to open and killing the people in the shack, while a possible "solution", isn't exactly in line with the Thieves Guild general philosophy.

I'm not a powergamer, but try this method: Grab a pen 'n paper and write down the skill name and governing attribute of every skill as it's raised. In order to get a x5 multiplier for strength, you'll need at least 10 strength GAs listed when you level up. But there's a catch - miscellaneous skill GAs can only account for 4 of the 10. If you want a x5 multiplier, 6 of the GAs are going to have to come from major/minor skills.

You can keep accumulating GA raises, and therefore multiplier values, AFTER you've reached 10/10 major/skill raises. (Pass the mouse over your current level in the stat menu to bring up a meter that tells you exactly how many maj/min skills you've raised.) Maj/min skill raises past 10/10 count towards your next level, but the GAs of those skills DO NOT count towards the next level up's multipliers.

That's about the best i can explain it. I hope it helps

Ah! A tough one. St Delyn, Waist North Two. It's a small apartment in Vivec and i get the distinct impression it was left empty to allow for free accomodation for squatters. With a touch of lighting to spruce it up, it's perfect for any starting character.

There are also plenty of caves that make perfect abodes for magey/outlaw types. Mabu-Ilu (use the interactive map ) is the only one i can think of just now.

If you're dead keen on staying in Balmora (along with 95% of every other MW player ) then there's a nice mod called Balconyhouse.esp which is the best house mod i've seen for Balmora. It's a bit spoilerish though. Check it out, but don't move in until you feel your character has earned it.

There really are hundreds of good spots to call home in the unmodded game. I'm still coming across new ones. Just pick something that is nice and fits the needs of your character.

Oh, and house mods are amongst the most the most common type of mod. Check out Morrowind Summit once you're ready.

I live in the late Foryn Gilnith's house. Seyda Neen is the only place in Morrowind that truly feels like home...

NobleNick, you could always join any of the three Great Houses to get your own stronghold. With the possible exception of the Telvanni one, they're pretty accessable despite being placed in the wilderness.

Ah yes, the strongholds. Sad to say, some of the quests for the redoran are... out of the way.

If ever you get lost NobleNick, consult the forum. Strategy guides for Morrowind usually don't help you at all
