Because I find it boring doing the same quests with the same people.
There are so many options so I want to test them.

But the main problem with no reloads is that you forget about some things. At least 90% of battles are just about careful planning and very focused play.

Oh no, I haven't died yet. This party is stupendously powerful. I'm going for the trifecta of pain (Tactics, Improved Battles and Ascension), without Item Upgrade, any bonus items, no use of Sanchuu, just basically the base items. No Improved Ilyich, cause I hate it. But these guys are pure power anyway. I haven't really even used any cheese yet. Just getting started though. I'm going no reloads (I need SOME challenge ). The blade is building up, so far the cleric/ranger and the fighter/thief have been carrying the party.

Would it mayhap be advisable to have the cleric/mage be a gnomish cleric/illusionist instead? There is a tradeoff in the lack of necromancies, but you get some of the necromancies from your clerical pool and there are two other guys in the party who can do the ADHW work. What you get is more spells per day and many of the arcane "magical tank" spells lies in the illusion realm anyway.

This is quite a good idea. It will require a slight change, but nothing big. What this does is make the fighter/mage our secondary offensive mage, which is fine, and gives us more spell slots (the more buffs the better.) The problem is that gnomes get -1 to wisdom. I will look up the tradeoffs and see, though it is looking bright.

Reading this thread made me pull out the dusted BG2&ToB cd's. I'm gonna do my first (and probably last) no-reloads game. What can I say, I'm hooked,,,

A party I like is; Jester - the confuse is awesome crowd control and for the nasty enemies like Dragons you have a decent spell chucker and average tank.
Inquisitor - Awesome tank, can kit him out in full plate and give him Carosmyr. His dispel magic and true sight are great and ofc his resists make him a reliable tank.
Thief/Mage - pleny of thieving points to do all that's required of him and a decent spell caster to boot. Sacrifice on backstab most of the time though as the group is more of a head on fighting team. Equip him with Gesens Bow or Fireooth.
Ranger/Cleric - Dual wield, can use crom fayer and all that. Sacrifice stealth and give him full plate and you have another front line tank that can cast many priest spells.
Cleric/Mage - the sit at the back character who always dies last Such an awesome range of spells. A truely powerful class.
Monk - Magic resistant, doesn't even need weapons, crazy resists. A solid tank who can look after himself in most situations you will come across.

Possible changes to the group could be changing the thief/mage to a swashbuckler and changing the monk to a sorcerer in this case.

Monk is not a Tank. He is a Flank Attacker like Kensai. I would choose Sorcerer( ) over Thief/Mage any day of the week altough you have backstabbing galore. I prefer Cavalier over Inquisitor but that`s just me. Also i prefer the Blade over Jester. Sure Confusion is fine but how many enemies in SoA and ToB on high levels really fail the save.

My party would be:
F/M
C/R
Cavalier
Sorcerer
Archer
Wizard Slayer->Thief dualled at level 9. Give him Grandmastery in Daggers and become really powerful character. Also you will have high HP`s,ApR`s and THACO.

But that is just me.
