Try putting the CD-ROM drive in to a different computer and test there.

What kind of noise does your hard drive make? Mine does a "WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!" and "TAP. TAP. TAP. TAP. CRASH!!"

What Larry said.

Seriously, two times already i had trouble with a legit disc. NBA 2004 crashed after every two games, either at the end of a game, or during halftime, the no cd crack fixed that problem. And more recently i had issues with Emperor Rise of the Middle Kingdom. After installing the game, it started asking for the proper cd, and all the while it was in the drive. If it wasn't for a no cd crack i couldn't even play the game, go figure.
