Welcome to IW Paul.
I've read a few Forgotten Realms novels, but none under you name. I'll have to check them out. ----- Quote:

All,
Again, thanks for the welcome. I'm open to any questions you may have, so feel free. Timber: No need to retract anything. I'd ask only that you read my FR books before you include me in any general FR criticism. As with anything, there is wide variation among books in the line, and a book that appeals to one person, does not appeal to another. Anyway, fire away! Ziroc: I believe Dawn of Night, the second book in the Erevis Cale trilogy, will be released in May or June of 2004. The book continues the themes and threads established in Twilight Falling. Much of it takes place away from Faerun, while the rest takes place under Faerun. More of Magadon's past is introduced, and the nature of the Sojourner is revealed. Paul |

Well, this is really wonderful incentive for me to go buy more FR books! I don't think I've read any of your works, Paul, but I certainly intend to! Ziroc's right- we may do some constructive criticism or discuss our individual likes and dislikes since we all have varied tastes in literature or Forgotten Realms characters, but we don't flame for the sake of being rude at Ironworks! As for general FR, criticism, well, as with anything there is the good and the bad. RA Salvatore's original Icewind Dale series was awesome. It drew a lot of us in and created some of the most memorable and loved characters in Fantasy as a genre. I liked Drizzt a lot, and I even liked recent books that made Artemis Entreri more... not, characterized, he was already that, I guess DYNAMIC is the word I'm looking for. It is the finicky that I pick on. FR is really magic-heavy, like the BG games which correctly represent it, and sometimes, only sometimes mind you, that bothers me. Then there are those things that defy the game rules as well as reality. Drizzt parrying 5 thrown daggers, for instance. But, all in all, I myself am a hack writer, a wannabe, and what real criticism can I throw at a guy like you who is living it and doing it? More than anything, and as the mods have well indicated, THANK YOU for gracing us with your presence. What is really neat is that a forum that was started to cater to the fans of the roleplaying and crpg genre has grown enough to actually attract those who make the genre's products. That is truly cool, and a fine example of how the internet can be a positive thing bringing communities of diverse and geographically-scattered people together in a tight neighborhood. By coming here you have tapped into a group of 14,000 people who share a common interest in what you do. Not only fans and potential fans, but also kindred spirits. I welcome you, we welcome you, and we hope this trend continues. WELCOME [ 10-26-2003, 12:27 AM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |
