You could even argue that it would be a good manner of learning how to read. I would grade Baldur's Gate 2 a lot better than those stupid interactive learning "games".

I really think that you getting your 5 year old to play through the whole game is fantastic!!!
I have been playing BG-II since the first day it hit the stores and I have played through the game more times than I can count or at least I quit counting after 15 or 20 times. I have taken every side quest and had every NPC in my team more than once including Sarevok.
Two weeks ago I started a new game with the Shadows Over Soubar Mod added for the first time and I still can't beleave how much fun this game is.
For good parties I have found Keldorn Firecam to be one great fighter and he can wield the greatest weapon the game has to offer the Holy Avenger.
I found that if you pick up new NPC's one at a time while Imoen is not with you. Then do the quest they need you to do, then after completing their quest keep them until you meet the next NPC that has a quest for you to do.at that time send the last NPC back to the city or where ever and pick them up later if you want to keep them. That way you can get all the side quests in that you haven't done yet and then go back to the rescue Imoem Quest.
