I've played with a female character sometimes, but I don't like the female portraits tough. I play female cause I'm a girl meself so it's fin sometimes, but I actually rather play a male cause there so big and cool We like men!

There is plenty of good female portraits on the web, Lovisa, try those sites in the sticky post.

Male, and I've played 3 females and 4 males so far - next will be a female avenger I think. Generally I've always preferred to watch a female be the star of a game if possible, especially in FPS games, not just the CRPGs

Yah, for portraits, nowadays I see if I can find celeb pics and photoshop them for my chars - last game was a solo blade & I used this pic of angie everhart hubba hubba - before that I found a good one of orlando moore (in LOTR) for my archer - think I'll use this pic of leelee sobieski in the woods for my elven avenger... no it may not always fit the roleplaying thing but it's nice to look at anyway

I never view the protagonist as an "avatar" of myself and thus find the sex change thing a bit irrelevant.

Rather, I'll like to envision some kind of person with some distinct motivations and philosophies and then play more or less after them.

I tend to play what is prettiest which in my case is human females, elven males, dwarwen males, half-orc females and halfling and gnome anything.

Here I am only talking avatars, of course.

Regarding romances my favourite is the Kelsey romance because all the official ones are so stuck up and lacking in any sense of humor.

Hm...I have always preferred playing males for some reason. (I am male as well.) I think its cos I like to identify with my PC. I like to think its me, and as you make the choices of what to say and do, and the narrative always refers to you as 'you'. I like the way BG1 and 2 do that, makes me feel I'm experiencing the adventure.

A little off topic but thats okay...I love how that evil mage guy () changes into a woman after you find him that book that he wants you to...and isn't there a belt that will change the sex of anyone you want...? Yeah ("belt05")...girdle of gender

I've always thought of the characters in the game as a representation of the player. That's why I have so much trouble playing with an evil party, I'm always looking at quests in terms of what would I do instead of what would my character do. One of the reasons that I could never get into games like Grand Theft Auto...

I'm learning though. I'm currently playing a game with an evil wild mage and plan to try the Viconia romance. I made myself bypass the circus (no profit in it) and then ratted out Hendak to Lehtinan (I'm missing the Tuigan Bow though!) I'm trying to imagine what my character would do, and keep in mind that the character doesn't know about the cool items and XP that he's missing out on.

Orolin, , just kidding, Olorin, you could have always got the Tuigan Bow by killing the Beastmaster, then dropping the key just outside Hendak's cage, leaving it there for a few days, then tell Lehtinan about Hendak. I'm so evil.

The Viconia romance is actually quite satisfying for good players too.

Only problem is that you have to make sure your reputation doesn't hit the 20.

And Keldorn, you can just send him home to his wife and kids. Nothing evil in that.
