Hey ppls...

I'm trying to create a new party in which I will replaace my ranger with a gadgie.

Hence I will lack scouting...so I plan to put on search mode. Does any1 know the penalties of search mode. Besides the fact that u can't run, I think it allows u to be surprised by monsters sometimes, can anyone clarify or explain.

P.S. What is a good race for a gadgie?

Hey,

I haven't even considered the penalties of using the search mode before until now. LOL. I've had it on ever since I started the game... plus I've a ranger too. .

Maybe someone more sophisticated with wizardry 8 would know. What comes to the scouting skills of my characters, they seem to be doing good. .

Greetings,

More likely to be surprised; plus I think only the ranger picks up creatures who are camoflauged early.

Basically though once you make a certain gadget that can cast detect secrets, and another that does x-ray, between those two you can turn search mode off, so you won't need it forever.

Also you can grab Sparkle as an RPC and let her do the autoscouting early on, she's a good early RPC for ranger-less parties, worth making a trip to the Umpani camp first thing post-monastery.

PS - I like Hobbits as Gadgeteers, and I take females for the stamina regenerating items, those gadgets suck up stamina pretty quickly. Mooks are good too. To me for roleplaying purposes though they should all be Gnome tinkers

Really, u guys like hobbits. While hobbits are probably best suited for Gadgeteers, I pick a gnome. Come on, in D&D n fantasy, gnomes would be suited best for gadgeteers. Dragonlance is an example. But whatever.

If you want the traditional RP gadgie, I picked a gnome and used the female eccentric #2. She's kind of annoying sometimes, but some of the comments are (for me) just absolutely hilarious. I just can't bring myself to make a gadgie that's not a gnome, but that's maybe just me.
