Doesn't anyone have any books they wanna talk about? Any news to share or anything? Well I just found out one thing, George R. R. Martin is STILL working on "A Dance of Dragons" , the fifth book in a song of ice and fire.

I just did that as I assumed my original post had been on there too long to edit, you know, sensibly. Also I know that the majority of members read a lot and I just want to get their oppinions and the like.

Well I'm getting towards the end of Vol. 3 of Otherland: Mountain of Black Glass. One of my favorite characters just got killed. I'm a little annoyed now, I figured he wasn't gonna make all the way through but I would have liked to at least see him through to book four.

I'm reading a couple more biographies... then I think I'll be done with that genre for a bit. Reading one on Jimmy Buffett, which has been utterly boring so far (written like a history text), and another on Charles Schulz, creator of Peanuts. *THAT* one is far, far better... and didja know there really was a red-haired girl? I never did... until now.

Just to keep everyone informed, I just got done reading a tube of Crest toothpaste when I was in the bathroom. Also just started on Children of Dune, the 3rd book in the Dune series.

I really enjoyed the original Dune and maybe one or two after that... but the series got really weird and I just couldn't stay connected - and the whole 'sisters who can control anyone with their sexuality' seemed a bit too teeniebopper for me... since I wasn't a teen anymore.
I just finished listening to the Unabridged Lord of the Rings... for the 8th or 9th time. I still read the books regularly but there's something REALLY enjoyable about listening to them performed by a skilled reader. Areas that I tend to get a bit bored with (like the endless wandering in the old forest) work a lot better in this medium. And the Sillmarillion is MUCH easier to deal with this way too (it tends to put me right to sleep when I read it). Last edited by Thoran; 01-31-2008 at 11:44 AM. |

They have an unabrdiged silmarillion? Dear god, I think I have to pick this up. Some of the stories in the Silmarillion are... a bit tedious, despite my love of reading.

Hmmm.. I found the Harper Audio version of Chronicles of Narnia to be excellent. Nothing quite like Patrick Stewart attempting the emulate the voice of a little girl or a talking mouse. It's kind of nostalgic actually, particularly if you've had grandparents that liked to read to you and act out the parts. It's kind of like that.
