My heart goes out to all those in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand over last nights 8.9 Earthquake in these parts, and the 6 aftershocks + the Tsunami.
But, I know how you feel, cos mine and Beaumanoirs Dad lives in Thailand. I spoke to him first thing this morning and he says he's fine, he said that he was drunk and didnt really notice it (which must mean he was leathered), but just hoping our Asian members off here are ok. After reading the report it's said that thousands are dead from various parts of Asia, and many thousands are missing in Thailand, so hopefully everyone off here is ok! Glad to hear your father is okey and pray the other members here are safe too. |

This is so sad, and I have a bad feeling the death toll is going to be way higher than they say right now.
![]() They even said it disturbed the earths rotation for a moment! God, if that kind of quake hit Japan, or Los Angles, it would have flattened the entire city. Atleast this one was under water. They need to have early warning stations some how. I heard that many don't even have telephone service. ![]() |

Well, latest reports are still coming in, and the death toll is around 10,000 at the moment.
It was an earthquake, six aftershocks and one of the worlds largest Tsunami's. Dad says he's fine, but some of his friends have lost a lot of stuff. I wanna know how Callum and the like are!

Sheesh, I just heard about this this morning...horrible stuff, and really, not much could have been done to make it any lesser. The population density in those areas just makes it ten times worse.

I read, on BBC I think, that the beaches were packed when the tsunami hit them in some countries. A shame that they don't have the necessary technology to have been able to evacuate the people. A great tragedy, but natural disasters can't be avoided.

Yeah, its a terrible shame.
My dad says that they are preparing for more aftershocks over the next day or so! There are rumoured to be 70 tourists still trapped in the Emerald Cave in Thailand, but at least they are still alive. Thousands across all of asia are not so lucky. To be honest, I have to admit, my Dad was very lucky! I'm so relieved!

I just got back from work and heard about it, a great tragedy. And the death toll is still rising I hear. Lavi, good stuff your dad is fine, he must have been really enjoying himself not noticing that

Well, they don't celebrate Xmas over there, so he was getting pretty mashed as a sorta celebration with a few of his English pals, but he just slept through it.
I just hope the expected after tremors are not that bad!

Death count is at over 11,000 now.
Just seen a video of people clinging to buildings as the waves come in, and their are little kids getting swept away by the Tsunamis. The waves were a couple of stories high, and they hit the shores at the same speed as a Boeing 747. 500mph. Officially 8.9 on the Richter, 5th biggest in the last hundred years! Even though people have died, and my Dad could have died too, if you take away the damage and death they cause, they are beautiful, phenomanol things. Just pure nature.
