this article summarises very nicely my concerns about the bush administration. it has nothing to do with right-wing, left-wing, conservative, liberal, democrat, or republican labels. it's dirty, it's unprincipled, and it's indicative of how they make all their decisions: with their own pockets in mind.

Nice article. All big business and big government is still an old boys club at the highest echelons. Believe me.

the question that raises for me, timber, is this: is democracy the biggest con job in history? the ruling class is, in all practical terms, a closed society that makes all the decisions and does so primarily with selfish concerns and with relative impunity.
giving us plebes the right to vote has been an opiate that allows most of us to sit back and remain uninformed and uninvolved. almost half of americans dont even take advantage of the right to vote in elections at the federal level. and even more primarily get their news from sources controlled by the same special interests that are working with those getting elected/re-elected. |

Well, my bedside Marxist version of history reminds me that all peoples of all times have been subjigated by some form of ruling class, but that steadily over human history the standard of living and freedom of the subjigated group has increased.

Next year I would be eligible to campaign for the office of President but the probability of my winning is, well, infinitesimal. Unless my fellow citizens here vote for me (hint). Corruption in politics is as old as politics itself. Since we'll never be rid of it, we must simply find an acceptable level of corruption and go from there.

azred - i'm neither an optimist nor a pessimist. the glass is neither half-empty nor half-full, but rather, is twice as big as it needs to be.
![]() that said, the realist in me shelters a biter idealist. acceptable levels of corruption and dishonesty? |
