I want to know if I were to multi-class say a Fighter/Thief can I get either the Fighter or Thief strongholds, also if I were to dual class from a fighter to a thief, and don't have the fighter stronghold yet,can I get the Thief's ? I have checked a couple of FAQ sites, but didn't find the answers.

If you are multi classed, you have to chose i think, and if your dual classed, you have the one you are currently playing with, fighter/thief, you'll get the thief stronghold

If you're multiclass, whatever stronghold quest associated with your professions you complete first is the one you get. So if you're a multiclass fighter/mage, and you do the Planar Sphere quest first before Nalia's castle, you get the mage stronghold.

If you dualclass, your character is eligible for the stronghold of whichever class is active. For instance, if you're running a dualclass fighter/mage, and your second class, mage, is now the primary profession, that's the stronghold you're eligible for.

Note, there was a bug in early iterations of the game that let dual-classed fighter/mages claim both strongholds. But if you've applied any of the later patches, this will no longer work. There used to be an unauthorized patch available for getting around this, letting you go for all the strongholds, but it appears to be withdrawn. I understand it was quite buggy.
