From the article

The story is dark-much darker than the usual BioWare fare-and influenced by "realistic" modern fantasy like George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones.

George Martin is the best writer I've read, if they're really influenced by him we'Re in for quite a ride.

I am looking forward to this game. I just hope Bioware is paying careful attention the the sloppy coding of both Gothic 3 and especially NWN2 in order to avoid the bugs that plauge both games, especially NWN2.
